SEC Coaches: Who's Bulletproof this year? Who's on the Borderline? Who's Burned (on the hot seat)? 🎙️🏈The 2025 season left the SEC landscape looking like a battlefield. Between the massive $138 million "purge" and the blockbuster move of Lane Kiffin to LSU, the pressure to win in the 16-team SEC has never been higher. In today’s episode, Darren breaks down the "B-Tier" Coaching Temperature Check. We’re ranking every head coach in the conference into three categories:
🛡️ BULLETPROOF: The kings of the conference. From Kirby Smart’s dynasty in Athens to the massive security of Lane Kiffin’s new LSU contract, these guys aren't going anywhere. ⚠️ BORDERLINE: The "Yellow Light" coaches. Josh Heupel and Brent Venables are winning, but is it enough to keep the boosters happy? We discuss why the "honeymoon phase" is officially over for these programs.
🔥 BURNED: The Maximum Hot Seat. We’re looking at Shane Beamer and Jeff Lebby—coaches who are essentially "winning or walking" as we head into the 2026 campaign. In this episode, we cover:
• Why Clark Lea is the most secure man in Nashville after a historic 10-win season.
• The staggering buyout keeping Shane Beamer in Columbia (for now).
• How the "New Blood" coaches (Sumrall, Golesh, Stein) are expected to navigate their first year.

Episode Notes: The 2026 SEC Coach Temperature Check
In this week's episode, we’re breaking down the SEC coaching landscape using our "B-Tier" Rating System. From the dynasties in Athens to the hot seats in Columbia, we’re ranking every head coach by their current job security.🛡️ Tier 1: BULLETPROOFThe elite, the untouchables, and the high-priced newcomers.• Kirby Smart (Georgia): 117-21 career. The back-to-back SEC Champ is the undisputed king.• Kalen DeBoer (Alabama): silencing critics with an 11-4 run and a CFP win in Year 2.• Steve Sarkisian (Texas): 10 wins in 2025 and the Arch Manning era in full swing.• Lane Kiffin (LSU): The $72M man. LSU’s massive investment makes him safe for years.• Clark Lea (Vandy): After a historic 10-3 season, he’s the safest man in Nashville.• Mike Elko (Texas A&M): 11 wins in his debut season has the Aggies dreaming big.• The Fresh Faces: Jon Sumrall (Florida), Alex Golesh (Auburn), and Will Stein (Kentucky) all carry first-year immunity.⚠️ Tier 2: BORDERLINESuccess is there, but the "honeymoon" is over.• Josh Heupel (Tennessee): 8-5 in 2025 has the Vol faithful hungry for a return to 10+ wins.• Brent Venables (Oklahoma): 10 wins is solid, but the 90th-ranked offense needs a spark in 2026.• Eli Drinkwitz (Missouri): Stability is great, but 2025 was a slight step back from the 2024 peak.• Pete Golding (Ole Miss): Stepped up in the CFP, but now he has to prove he can sustain Kiffin’s momentum.🔥 Tier 3: BURNEDWin now or clear out the office.• Shane Beamer (South Carolina): Coming off a 4-8 season. The buyout is the only thing cooler than his seat.• Jeff Lebby (Mississippi State): 5-8 in Year 1. Starkville needs to see a bowl game invitation this fall.• Ryan Silverfield (Arkansas): Taking over a program that went 0-8 in the SEC last year; the leash is incredibly short.
