Two hosts. Two states. A whole lot of breweries.

In Episode 35 of The Brewery Underground Podcast, Steve Sullivan and Scott Touron compare two separate Brewery and Travel Adventures that happened at the same time—Steve exploring Western Michigan while Scott traveled through North Carolina.

Steve's Michigan brewery adventure takes him through Holland, Comstock Park and Grand Rapids, with stops at Big Lake Brewing, The Mitten Brewing Company, Perrin Brewing Company and Our Brewing Company. He also attends an outdoor charity music festival featuring beer from New Holland Brewing.

We compare the breweries, beers and cities we experienced along the way, along with some of the restaurants and other travel stops that made each trip memorable.

And then there's Steve's return trip from Michigan—an epic air-travel experience from hell that deserves a story of its own.

It's a short, casual conversation about podcasting, craft beer, Nashville breweries and some of the people we've met through the beer community.

We couldn't find the perfect place to include this recording in another episode, so we're giving it a home of its own.

It's only eight minutes long—including the music—so we don't want to hear that you didn't have time to listen. 😁

What does it take to visit more than 1,300 breweries across all 50 states?

In Episode 30 of The Brewery Underground Podcast, Steve Sullivan and Scott Touron sit down with Joel Geier of Brewery Travels to talk about his incredible journey exploring breweries across the United States.

Joel shares how his brewery travels began, the process he follows when visiting a new brewery, and what he's learned after experiencing more than 1,300 breweries in hundreds of cities.

We also talk about the book he's writing, his involvement in podcasting, his future travel plans, how he uses Untappd, and what keeps him motivated to continue discovering new breweries and beer communities around the country.

Between the time we recorded this conversation and its release, Joel reached two major milestones—visiting his 50th state, Alaska, and his 500th city. Congratulations to Joel on an incredible achievement!

And because this episode was originally released on July 4th, we couldn't resist adding a special patriotic introduction. Our own Steve Sullivan and friend Kyle Mask unknowingly recorded a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner that was destined for a future Brewery Underground episode.

  • Deep South Growlers: Inside a Nashville Craft Beer Taproom | Episode 29

In Episode 29 of The Brewery Underground Podcast, Steve Sullivan and Scott Touron record on location at Deep South Growlers in South Nashville with owners Greg and Abbey Anderton.

With two locations in Middle Tennessee, Deep South Growlers has created a place for craft beer fans to discover beers, ciders and seltzers from a variety of producers.

Greg and Abbey take us behind the scenes of running a craft beer taproom, including what brings customers through the doors and how they decide which beers, ciders and seltzers earn a spot on the tap list.

We also talk about the process of discovering new products, keeping the selection interesting and figuring out what customers want to drink.

And apparently Scott occasionally plays a part in deciding what shows up on the menu. We're not sure whether that's a good thing, but Greg and Abbey keep listening to him.

This was a fun conversation with two people we've known for several years about craft beer, running a local taproom and being part of the Nashville and Middle Tennessee beer community.
