It was a week that was filled with optimism about what might occur during President Trump’s visit to China to start...and filled with concern about what may come next as the visit ended without resolution to major issues like the Strait of Hormuz or the Russia – Ukraine war. In the end stocks finished the week close to where they began it – with a lot of volatility – which included new record highs for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq in between. While stocks performed best, significant selling set back in for digital currencies and for precious metals as well.

What’s now becoming clear is that the key for any much bigger deals beyond 737’s and soybeans to get done we’d first have to change our change our stance on Taiwan’s sovereignty in the eyes of Xi Jinping (or at least that’s what he’s currently suggesting). But the divide on that issue is probably bigger than wherever we are with our negotiations with the ‘Well Imamers’ in Iran.

The biggest storyline in Florida’s political scene continues to be the state’s blue counties becoming far less blue. Palm Beach County represents one of the most significant shifts in the state. Early in this midterm election year, changes in voter registrations will be the most visible sign of political trends within the state.

As we reflect on those we’ve lost, please remember the families of our fallen as well. The average age of the fallen is 39; the average tour-of-duty is 10 years. In addition to losing 40 law enforcement professionals in the line-of-duty this year, there are 24 widows and 43 children who’ve lost a parent. Remember to back the badge and spread the word. They need us just as much as we need them.

The bottom line is that what we’re seeing playout right now isn’t sustainable. Something will give, and if it isn’t a resolution to conflicts overseas rather quickly, it will be the economy domestically. Let’s pray that’s not the case and that some serious deal making moves the needle. After all, with 47% of the country’s oil coming through the Strait of Hormuz, China wants resolution with Iran even more than we do.
