  • Faith & Finance - Live Simply, Give Generously with Randy Alcorn

Living simply isn’t about deprivation—it’s about freedom. And that freedom can unleash extraordinary generosity.

God calls us to live with eternity in mind—not clinging to possessions but using what we have for His Kingdom. Randy Alcorn joins us today to talk about how we can loosen our grip on earthly things to open our hands to eternal impact.

Randy Alcorn is the founder and director of Eternal Perspective Ministries (EPM) and the New York Times Bestselling author of more than 60 books, including Heaven, Money, Possessions, and Eternity, The Treasure Principle, and Giving Is the Good Life. His books have been translated into over 70 languages and have sold more than 10 million copies.

    Simplicity That Leads to Generosity

You’ve likely heard the phrase, “Live simply, that others may simply live.” It’s a short sentence with a world of meaning behind it—and one that feels increasingly relevant today.

Everywhere we look, we see need. It’s been that way ever since sin entered the world, but now the sheer scale is staggering—billions of people living in poverty, lacking food, clean water, or access to opportunity. When we consider this, it should be shocking to see how much of a difference it would make if those of us who follow Jesus simply chose to live on less—so that we could give more.

    11. Living on the Edge with Chip Ingram Daily Podcast - Uninvited Guests - How to Discipline Your Child Effectively, Part 1

Discipline. It’s only one word, but it conjures up a multitude of thoughts or memories. In this message, Chip encourages us that done properly, discipline can actually build a strong, positive bond between you and your kids.

Case Study #1 – Reuben Hill (Minnesota Report)

      • Summary: The balanced authoritative parent, who gives high support (love) and high control (discipline), typically produces children with high self-esteem, good coping skills, and a positive relationship with parents.

      Case Study #2 – Hebrews 12 - Christians A.D. 66-70

      • Summary: Discipline is teaching obedience to God and His Word through consistentconsequences (actions) and clear instructions (words) in an atmosphere of love.

      Five characteristics of discipline:

      1. The necessity of discipline = To deter DESTRUCTION. -Heb. 12:4
      2. The means of discipline = The ACTIONS and WORDS. -Heb. 12:5
      3. The motive in discipline = To express LOVE. -Heb. 12:6-9
      4. The goal of discipline = To teach OBEDIENCE or SUBMISSION. -Heb. 12:9
      5. The result of discipline = Short term PAIN and long term GAIN. -Heb. 12:10,11

      Two key biblical concepts

      1) Actions: Consistent consequences

      Seven steps to discipline:

      1. Clear WARNING.
      2. Establish responsibility.
      3. Avoid EMBARASSMENT.
      4. Communicate grief.
      5. Flick the WRIST.
      6. Sincere repentance.
      7. Unconditional LOVE.

      2) Words: Clear instructions

Four ways to use words to bring about correction:

      1. Say “no” FIRMLY.
      2. CLEAR WARNING of consequences.
      3. Use CONTRACTS.
      4. Use CONSEQUENCES
