This Sunday we will begin a new series, Revelation: The Seven. Each Sunday we will look at one of the seven churches in Revelation 2-3. This Sunday, Pr. Chris will preach from Revelation 2:1-7. In this passage, Jesus commended the church at Ephesus for how they serve faithfully, endure hardships, have sound doctrine, and hate heretics. All signs pointed to a healthy vibrant church that was recognised for great accomplishments, but Jesus had a big criticism. They are not very loving. Instead of merely criticising the Ephesians, we must read Jesus’ words humbly and realise how we could become like them.

Jay preached on the depth and costliness of the love Christ: “Christ loved us and gave himself for us.” His love was strong enough that He was willing to give up his life for us, so that we may be set free from sin. But his work was not finished with death. Scripture tells us that “on the third day” Jesus rose from the dead. And it is Jesus’ resurrection that is the basis of our hope. Jesus Christ was crucified, but he was raised again as well; and in Jesus’ victory we find our own victory over sin and death.

The message of Christ is radical, surprising, and yet simple. “In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” The Bible tells us that God is a Father who waits, who longs to gather His children together and take them into His arms. We, who were once alienated and His enemies have been offered a place in the family of God through the greater gift of adoption. This God is Father, whose name is hallowed and whose kingdom comes, whom we know through the Son and by the Spirit, whom we run toward as children.
