The 'Keeping it Natural' Breakfast

Three years ago, Paula Seager left a successful career in media relations to set up her own agency, Natural PR Ltd. And she's never looked back.

The business, based in Poynings, near Brighton, has attracted big name clients such as Brighton and Hove Albion's American Express Community Stadium, Brighton Marina, and the Sussex Tourism Partnership. It also owns and manages the Sussex Food and Drink Awards, among other events.

The philosophy of Natural PR is to provide honest and open guidance to businesses and organizations.

In this breakfast, Paula will talk about how Natural PR diversified during the recession – and how this helped her business to develop and grow.

John Barradell arrived as the chief executive of Brighton and Hove City Council in October 2009.

Originally from South East London, John had visited Brighton and Hove since he was a child. This obviously made quite an impression on him as he counts the city and the people who live and work in it as the main reasons behind him wanting to take on the role.

John's background includes 22 years working in various roles in the private sector before starting his career in local government in 2002 - and going on to become deputy chief executive at Westminster City Council.

Awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours in 2008, John is passionate about public services and believes councils should be at the heart of the community.

At this inspirational breakfast, John talks about the challenges and rewards of leading the council as well as sharing his future vision for the city and the local business community.

The 'Mugs to Millions' Breakfast

Andrew Nash has been running Sussex Promotions for ten years, supplying all sorts of promotional items to businesses from mugs and pens through to eco flowers and golf balls.

Over the last decade, Sussex Promotions has grown from a one-man operation into a business turning over £1.5m and employing eight people in Woodmancote, West Sussex. Andrew has also recently added Sussex Office Products to his portfolio of businesses in the Sussex Group.

Andrew has a great business success story which he shares with us at this inspirational breakfast - including some of the lessons he has learnt since starting his own business, which far exceed anything learnt in the classroom, and how he's planning for the future.

Revealing all about the highs and lows of running a charity in Brighton and Hove is Robert Griffiths from The Martlets Hospice and Nick Rose from The Sussex Beacon. They're joined by Rob Starr from The Edward Starr Charitable Trust and Claire Ross-Baker from Rockinghorse.

Hear from them about what it takes to run a charity in the city, who they help, who they are most indebted to and of course, the fantastic work they do in your local area.

Nigel Berman was one of Brighton and Hove's early green business pioneers and runs Nigel's Eco Store, an online retailer of environmentally-friendly products.

After training as a chartered accountant and spending several years as a freelance writer, his discovery of ‘eco products’ in 2005 inspired him to set up Nigel's Eco Store in his free time.

A year later he left publishing to pursue these greener pastures full time. Nigel's Eco Store recently acquired online ‘eco homeware’ retailer EcoCentric and now employs a team of six in its Hove offices.

At this breakfast, Nigel talks about how he turned an idea into a thriving business that has continued to evolve and grow.
