My guest, Shane Rosenthal of The Humble Skeptic, and I discuss what true biblical faith looks like, how misunderstanding that brings brokenness, and how a healthy skepticism and the Gospel bring healing to that brokenness as we wrestle with our faith to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ.
Guest:
Shane Rosenthal is the founder and host of The Humble Skeptic podcast. Though he was raised in a Jewish home he became an atheist at a young age, but later in college he ended up losing faith in atheism and converted to Christianity. My guest, David Zahl of Mockingbird Ministries, and I discuss how having a philosophy of high anthropology brings brokenness to us personally and to the church and how understanding low anthropology both from a biblical perspective and practically can actually help us to move toward healing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Guest:
David Zahl is the director of Mockingbird Ministries and editor-in-chief of the Mockingbird website. Born in New York City and brought up elsewhere, David graduated from Georgetown University in 2001, and then worked for several years as a youth minister in New England. In 2007 he founded Mockingbird in NYC. Today David and his wife Cate reside in Charlottesville, VA with their three boys, where David also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. He is the author of A Mess of Help: From the Crucified Soul of Rock N’ Roll and co-author of Law and Gospel: A Theology for Sinners (and Saints), Seculosity: How Career, Parenting, Technlogy, Food, Politics, and Romance Became Our New Religion and What To Do About It, and his most recent book, Low Anthropology. Even after all these years, he’s still mourning the end of Calvin and Hobbes (and hoping that Morrissey and Marr will bury the hatchet). His favorite theologian is probably a cross between Johnny Cash, Flannery O’Connor and his brother Simeon.

Show Notes:
Co-Host: Brad Kafer is a brother in Christ that lives in Wisconsin that has been a huge blessing in the Theocast FB Community. He is currently attending seminary with the goal of becoming a pastor.
Passage from The Common Book of Prayer:
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
