Episode 68 of Brook Reading revels in the wonder of fairy tales while I discuss Part 1 of “Sleeping Beauties” by Stephen and Owen King.  My special guest and lady love, Shera, pops by the Brook to discuss HER favorite fable, “Streganonna”, I ask lots of questions about the plot of this novel - I mean, it’s not like I read it, right?? - and rage against the idea of female hysteria and silencing women.     Strega Nona by Mary Steenburgen   Shoutouts: Lady Pod Squad and all my ladies who constantly support the show!  This episode and this novel is for you!   Sean from What Does It Matter? This week for Episode 67, I review the novella, “The Body” by Stephen King and the film adaptation, “Stand by Me”.  I butcher Kiefer Sutherland’s name a LOT, confuse the race of Vern because of my childish television habits, and inadvertently plug the IMDB Journey podcast!  I do also talk about my opinion on this wonderful story and look forward to continuing the Summer of King!   Quote from Chapter 1: “The most important things are the hardest things to say.  They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them - words shrink things that seemed limitless when they’re were in your head to no more than living size when they’re brought out.  But it’s more than that, isn’t it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you’ve said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it.  That’s the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear.” *citation below* [King, Stephen.  “Different Seasons”.  Signet Publishing, 1983, p. 289.]   Shoutouts: Antoinette Fox Penance RPG Alison   Promos: All the Horror Featuring Invasion of the Remake Reel Feels Podcast   Intro Song by Sean Faust   When you are in the market for concert, sports or events tickets, why don’t you use Seat Giant?  You can recieve a discount if you enter the promo code: BROOKWORMS specially designed for fans of the Brook Reading Podcast!  Go to www.seatgiant.com and check them out!    Thank you so much for all of your support!  Subscribe and check out my other episodes on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher, Radio Public, Castbox, Player FM, or download directly from http://brookreading.libsyn.com.  You can also leave comments, questions, or novel requests on Twitter @brookreadingpod, on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/brookreadingpodcast/ on Instagram @brookreading or email me:  [email protected].     Brook Reading is now on Podcoin as well!  Download the Podcoin app and listen to all of your favorite shows - the more you listen, the more coins you will receive!  You can use your coins to trade in for gift cards, or donate to charitable causes! Episode 66 is somewhat of a heavy episode, Brookworms, due to the sensitive nature of my 5-minute rant.  I apologize if it makes you uncomfortable, and completely understand if you choose to skip this episode. Thank you, though, for allowing me to use my platform for discussions such as these.  Tonight’s episode also includes a schedule of novels for the upcoming months, and some gracious comments from my listeners and friends.
