God's covenants with us, and his constant pursuit of a relationship with us is perfected in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. As the perfect sacrifice, Christ establishes a new covenant with us to end all others. Sacrifice was what God required of us to make ourselves right with God, but the new covenant is about God making things right with us through the body and blood of Christ.

We live in a world where some value power and authority. God works within this world by establishing influence in many different kinds of people, those who were born into it (the expected), and those who were born without it (the unexpected). By establishing influence through David's kingship, God is setting the stage for Jesus (whose lineage includes David and Rahab) to shatter the world's expectations through the most unpredictable influence ever.
