We're heading to Michele’s, where the menu is inspired by the flavors of Houston and New Orleans, which means I now have to put a trip to Houston on my list to get the full picture. This week I am joined by the ever talented Alexa Patrick, a vocalist and poet from Connecticut. Alexa holds fellowships from Cave Canem, Obsidian, The Watering Hole, and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. She has held various teaching positions and is currently the Programs Director for non-profit writing program and publishing house Shout Mouse Press. You may find her work in publications including The Rumpus, CRWN Magazine, and The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic. Her debut collection Remedies for Disappearing will be published by Haymarket Books in 2023.

This week we're heading to the restaurant where I celebrated the big 3-0 with my DC community! I'm talking all things Imperfecto, because after all there's always room for growth. I am joined by María Fernanda (she/her), a poet whose work explores the intimacy of sisterhood and, “the breaking and making of family.” (Madenga). Her poems, translations, and essays appear in The Wide Shore, Cave Canem’s Dogbytes, The Breakbeat Poets Vol. 4: LatiNext (available at BusBoys), and more. Founder of Black Producers Network, María Fernanda concentrates on commissioning new work, developing creative residencies for artists at every stage in their career, artist contract management for individuals and large groups, and producing live productions.

This week we are brunching at a DMV staple, Bus Boys & Poet - a cultural hub where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted. Bus Boys never lets me down when I'm in the mood for brunch with family or friends. We are joined by Morgan Davis the owner and head designer of Morganeliz – which focuses on providing made-to-order, size-inclusive (Small-7X) clothing, accessories, art prints, and home goods. Esta semana we're heading to Mi Vida! Y'all know I love a margarita with my brunch and what a perfect way to kick off my first guest appearance of the season than with views of The Wharf in DC. We are joined by M'Kai Folley, a DC working professional who is also a brand new author! We're Back Baby! After a cute little 4 year hiatus I'm back! There's been lots of changes including a move out of New York City and into Washington DC.
