🎙️ The Bubba Cast: Saturday Night’s Main Event – May 27th, 1989
Sup, Bubba?! We're heading back to Memorial Day weekend 1989, baby—and the Boss Man is in a cage, Hogan’s flexin’, and Zeus just crash-landed into the WWF like a freight train from Hollywood. In this week’s episode, Lacy and Zerpie dig deep into this absolute fever dream of a Saturday Night’s Main Event, taped in the soy bean capital of the world—Des Moines, Iowa. (Shout out to Jesse Ventura for that culinary insight.)
We break down:
Hulk Hogan vs Big Boss Man in a steel cage—with handcuffs, chains, blading, and a surprise run-in from Zeus himself (a.k.a. Deebo!)
Rick Rude’s Intercontinental title defense against crown-wearing 2x4-wielding Jim Duggan
The Brain Busters (Tully & Arn!) taking on Demolition in a BDSM-themed tornado of a tag match
Macho Man, Sensational Sherri, and the ongoing post-Elizabeth madness
A guest appearance from Jimmy Snuka, Boris Zhukov's terrible national anthem, and more!
Expect chaotic commentary, iconic promos, questionable fashion choices, and plenty of WTF moments—including why Boss Man may or may not be using duct tape as wrist tape.
So dust off that VCR, cue up the blue steel cage, and get ready for a nostalgic deep dive into one of the wildest episodes of WWF TV this side of No Holds Barred.
LET’S GO, BUBBA.
Sup, Bubba?!
On this episode of The Bubba Cast, Lacy and Zerpie rewind the tape and plow headfirst into the madness of the Attitude Era with one of the most controversial and stacked episodes in SmackDown history: November 11, 1999.
The stage is Baltimore, the drama is nuclear, and DX is up to their degenerate tricks again. The pair break down the infamous segment involving Stephanie McMahon, the disturbing funeral fiasco with Big Boss Man and Big Show, and a main event so chaotic it needed both Stone Cold Steve Austin and Arnold Schwarzenegger to keep order. (Spoiler: They did not keep order.)
Edge vs. Hardcore Holly – A high-flying opener ends in controversy with Holly stealing the pin.
The Dudley Boyz vs. The Godfather & D’Lo Brown – Interference from the Ho Train spells disaster.
Val Venis vs. British Bulldog – Ends in a massive brawl with multiple Survivor Series teams.
Big Boss Man vs. Faarooq (WWF Hardcore Title) – A brutal funeral aftermath fight ends with mace and a steel step KO.
Grand Master Sexay vs. Jeff Hardy – Too Cool uses distractions and dirty tricks to score the upset.
Ivory vs. Tori (WWF Women’s Title) – Pure chaos as the entire women’s division gets involved.
Main Event: The Rock, Kane, Shane McMahon & Test vs. Triple H, X-Pac, Road Dogg & Billy Gunn
— A Survivor Series-style elimination match featuring run-ins, low blows, busted noses, and Arnold Schwarzenegger punching Triple H in the face.
Original Air Date: Thursday, November 11, 1999

Sup, Bubba?!
On this episode of The Bubba Cast, Zerpie and Lacy fire up the time machine and head back to the electric chaos of Saturday Night's Main Event in this throwback-heavy episode. The spotlight’s on a brewing storm in the old-school WWF universe, where family ties and wrestling heat collide in the best kind of way.
Lacy opens up about a storyline-in-the-making involving her dad—the one and only Big Boss Man—and the ever-mouthy Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. Heenan’s been running wild on the mic, disrespecting not only the Boss Man but also Lacy’s grandma… and let’s just say, the matriarch’s not the type to let that slide forever.
While the purse-swinging smackdown is still simmering in the background, this episode sets the stage for what could be one of the most legendary confrontations in Bubba Cast lore. It’s family pride, old-school shade, and the kind of storytelling that makes wrestling fans’ hearts thump like entrance music in a packed arena.
WWF Championship Match: The Ultimate Warrior defended his title against "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. Warrior's energy was unmatched, and he retained his championship in a hard-fought battle.

Rick Martel vs. Tito Santana: Former tag team partners turned adversaries faced off in a grudge match. Martel's cunning tactics gave him the edge over Santana in this intense showdown.

In this episode of The Bubba Cast, in a heel vs heel match, Big Bubba Rogers takes on One Man Gang for the UWF Heavyweight Title.
It was the first show taped out post Crockett buyout, and this match aired on May 2, 1987. This was One Man Gang's final match in the UWF before he left to join the World Wrestling Federation.
Big Bubba would join him in this move to the WWF shortly after this title win and we'd soon see these gentleman become tag team partners as Big Boss Man and Akeem to form the "Twin Towers."
