We are not independent solitary 'things'. Instead you must realize that we are a single point in a vast organism of 'man', 'species' and life itself. As such, we are influenced and influence the entirety of the 'organism' all the time. This 'sphere' of influence, like an 'aura', is touched by everything in our environment as well as affecting all things in return. Your MyoHoRenGeKyo dedicated practice will be sensed by the 'organism'.

In Part two, Nichiren pivots to his own doctrine of the Lotus Sutra to support what he has written in (part one) to aid in her study and understanding of her practice and the important role of her husband's life with her. Here is an intimate letter from Nichiren who recently lost her husband (a Samurai), to encourage and support as well as educate her on the nature of her husband's tremendous influence on her life; but also in the nature of our lives to be attached to physical identity rather than our true timeless entity of enlightenment. He identifies, for instance, that the 'manifestations' of 'hell' and sufferings all are manufactured and nurtured from internal states of mind. So demonstrating that it is totally within our human grasp to convert and use these states in order to transcend and arise our Buddha nature through the conversion from Buddha .manifested body to Buddha reward body and ultimately realize the Buddha Dharma body.

A touching letter of appreciation from Nichiren to a Samurai supporter. A great example of the nature of Bodhisattva practice and the profound appreciation of Sangha.

As we know, in the Buddhist sense, "good and evil" are Western translations of "Life affirming" versus Life Affirming" or negative and positive influence or in the ultimate analysis, toward the correct Dharma versus against the Correct Dharma.

In this letter Nichiren congratulates a Samurai warrior for turning in his highly symbolic and rife with meaning swords (power and slaughter) from his side to the Lotus Sutra as offering to the Buddha. In this gesture the Samurai "detaches" the power and death influence of the swords from his being and converts the act of "evil" to an act of life affirming and awakened compassion ("good").

This letter sent for broad distribution is Nichiren's explanation and encouragement to his followers that true practice will always arise obstacles. These obstacles are to be seen as validation of correct practice and to be resolutely overcome for great insight and awakening.

Understanding attachment can become a very technical study, but although the depth of its meaning can take years to study, it is the fundamental idea of releasing our obsession with ownership and permanence that is at the root of all suffering.

Ultimately Nichiren encourages Shijo Kingo to live his life and practice as one just as all his encounters with others should be lived as siblings, with the same filial sentiments and responsibilities as any family member. This is the Bodhisattva way and the way of Buddhaness.

This Gosho Nichiren focuses much more on the proper understanding of the lineage and the actual statements of Shakyamuni as to the time and the readiness and capacity of the people of the times. By exploring this thoroughly, Nichiren hopes to enable his students to understand why it is not he, Nichiren who demands the teaching to the essentia chapters of the Lotus to be preeminent and necessary as the only practice of Buddhism viable for we of the Later Day of the Law, but in fact the actual teaching of Shakyamuni himself as he set out his teaching of the Dharma for future generations.

In closing this letter to Shijo Kingo about doubts and obstacles in Buddhist practice, Nichiren assures Shijo and his wife that troubles in Nichiren's practice were planned for and a validation of his deep commitment to spread the teachings of the Dharma.
