Oh hai Burner Babes. We're gabbing this week about how only stupid, ugly people want to install surveillance cameras around our city. Mayor Bruce Harrell has decided that the Seattle Police Department needs literally more than 365 cameras across the city, a move that will threaten the safety of immigrants, people seeking abortions, and anyone in Seattle unlucky enough to be caught on grainy camera feed near the scene of a crime. On the couch to talk about this is BJ Last, from Stop Surveillance City, and returning guest Justin Ward, head of DivestSPD. Reminder that to stop Seattle morphing into the panopticon, submit a public comment by Sept. 9.

The Burner gals are joined by Progressive People Power PAC (P3) consultant and all around cool guy Stephen Paolini to talk about Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani's blow out victory over the Democrat establishment in the New York City Mayoral primary and what lessons Seattle can learn from it!

Key take aways: The Democracy Voucher program (which we still like) prevents candidates from raising enough money to execute as sophisticated of a communications strategy as Mamdani did, NYC progressives did not give Cuomo the political cover that Seattle progressives are giving Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, P3 most likely won't spend in the mayor's race this year, and Ashley called Harrell daddy...

She plans to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Adam Smith for his seat.  Smith has taken to attacking so-called “new Left” extremists, saying Democrats are failing to govern well because they’re too focused on “concepts like ‘settler colonialism’ instead of on more immediate problems in people’s everyday lives.” So, the Burner gals play a game of "Who said it, Adam Smith or a Generic Republican?"

BREAKING: Seattle Organizer-in-Chief Kshama Sawant joined the pod this week to talk about the Seattle City Council's latest attempt to make your life worse, and how you can help her to prevent a significant roll back of renter's rights. We're talking the $10 late fee cap, notice about rental increases, and limits on move in fees. All of this is actively at risk RIGHT NOW. With no Seattle Council Member even attempting to organize an effective pushback to this Council's assault on renters, Kshama has to step up. Join her at 2 pm Tuesday at Seattle City Hall.
