In this episode I interview Tyrelle McLeod-Bentley who is the co-founder of Soccer Assist.

After studying a Business Management degree in the U.S for 2 years at Olympic College & West Virginia Tech University, Tyrelle moved on to play professionally in Sweden. Approaching the end of college, there are a limited number of exit routes for student athletes e.g going to a UK university, working full-time or taking on a modern day apprenticeship.

This is how soccer assist was born out of the frustration of wanting to do a better job.

Jon Manning started Arthur Ellis in 2017, naming this movement after his Grandfathers. Arthur Manning and Ellis Graham. Ellis suffered with Schizoaffective Disorder. Without anyone knowing how to deal with this enduring illness, Ellis deteriorated to the degree where he sadly spent most of his life in hospital.

After Jon suffered with a mental illness for 20 years without being able to access meaningful support, he decided to set up Arthur Ellis to change the way we see and support mental health. To ensure that we create a culture where if someone is experiencing any difficulties, we individually have the knowledge to practically help.

In this episode Jon shares his on story and struggling with mental health and how one incident changed the way he viewed how to manage his mental health. 

He now uses his journey and message to help others with his lead role at Arthur Ellis: Mental Health Support.

He does this by training schools, businesses and other organisations in the use of evidence-based, practical tools, strategies and methods to improve mental health directly, alleviating pressures on the services and creating a country that is #IndependentFromIllness.

In the this week's show, Marc Thannhauser, a landscape gardener, originally from Cape Town, South Africa, who runs Beech Garden Services, based in Milton Keynes.

Marc is a former beer swigging, smoke anything, hardcore carnivore who once believed that beans and pulses were the offal of the vegetable kingdom and to be avoided at all costs.

That lifestyle has changed dramatically over the past three years and he's now on a previously untrodden road of discovery and self-improvement.

The smoking was ditched over ten years ago but the magic really happened when the decision to cut out all alcohol was made in the summer of 2016. While the decision was swift, it was also a long time in the making. Fed up of hangovers, tired of the guilt of another night of snoring and restlessness, the constant reliance on alcohol as essential to having a memorable (or more accurately, unmemorable!) night out, weighed heavily and it was a quote that he read which acted as a catalyst for change…”Be the change you want to see”.

The initial transition to an alcohol free life was not difficult to follow but it was a constant distraction, afterall habits formed over thirty years are ingrained. A few months into the abstinence brought a clarity of thought and a renewed energy and focus, so much so that he noticed significant changes to both my mental and physical wellbeing.

It was a perfect opportunity to begin something he had always wanted to do but somehow never made the commitment. Start to play the piano. he found an online piano hire shop and a few days later received a digital piano. He still has it today . It was the perfect tool, enabling him to focus on a new skill rather than lament the loss of an old friend (or foe)...alcohol.

As improvements began to happen in all aspects of his life, I became increasingly curious as to how he could further accelerate and support this positive process.

I read many books and listened to countless audiobooks and podcasts, all around the genre of self-improvement.

It was a couple of years later that he happened to see an interview with Gary Player, a former South African golfer, who at the time of the interview was 80 years old. He is still incredibly fit and active and Marc wondered what he did on a daily basis that affords him such health and vitality. Apart from the obvious exercise regime he puts himself through it was his knowledge and passion for nutrition that left Marc wanting to know more.

On the back of reading ‘The China Study’ by Dr T. Colin Campbell, Gary Player went vegetarian overnight at the age of 50. Coincidentally, Marc was 50 when he discovered this information, ordered the book and also, after reading it, went vegetarian overnight. That was around a year ago and the meat-free journey continues.

As he has always cooked he has found the change to be relatively straight forward. Marc has explored other cuisines, for example Middle Eastern food, rather than go down the meat-substitute route. While the decision was initially born out of a healthier alternative, it has inevitably led to an increased consideration towards the environment and animal welfare.

He loves to cook and to discover new foods. Marc wants to show that you can still eat incredibly tasting food without using any animal products and the unhealthy baggage they bring. 

Foods that make you feel good, look good, that taste good and are good for you. 

Everyone and everything wins.

Daniel is the Studio Manager from one of the fastest growing fitness crazes with celebrities such as Mark Wahlberg which started out in Sydney Australia.

He has been in the fitness and leisure industry for over 10 years,

Daniel shares his journey with fitness as he changed his life around from being overweight to exercising regularly and loving it. 

He first tried F45 in Australia 2 years ago and fell fo the brand straight away. 

Whilst living in New Zealand he completed his first 8 Week Challenge and saw amazing results not only his but on those he was training along side with some people loosing up to 15kg of fat.

Sam's journey to Student Breakthrough has been an awesome and insightful one. 

From teaching history in the UK for five years he found that so many students failed to achieve the grades they wanted, lacked self-confidence and were not motivated to achieve their very best.

I realised that I was good enough and started taking weekly action on my true calling – education. This breakthrough moment shifted by mindset to one of gratitude and achievement. I became a better teacher as a result and my life really did change that day. Coaching is so amazing because you (the client) are the spark for change and take action based on your goals.

We founded Tappter in the Spring of 2016. At the time, we had an embryo of an idea, but we didn’t really know how it was going to come together in practice.

We set out with a purpose. We knew that our idea could shake things up if done in the right way, and we were excited by the prospect of not only creating something successful, but something meaningful.

In the time that followed, news stories broke around the negative impacts of social media platforms – we saw this as a further opportunity to strengthen some of our core beliefs and concepts, and an opportunity to try and provide people with something a little different.

At this stage, it became clear that our underlying concept was all about Relationships.

After graduating from the EIF in 2008 with his Reps affiliated Master Trainer Certification Scott moved to Canada to work on the biggest loser and warrior programs in British Columbia. 

This is where his passion for transformative work started.

Scott then went onto work with the western naturals bodybuilding affiliate, training competitors & preparing athletes for competitions.

Scott then left Canada to work for Steiner Transoceanic as a Cruise ship physique coach and personal trainer.

This gave Scott the opportunity to work all over the world with a huge amount of clientele with a large variety of backgrounds from royalty to celebrity & everything in between.

After landing back on English shores Scott went on to found the Mighty 100 training model and transformation centre. 

Scott continues to work with company's such as Lionsgate studios and sports England and is constant pursuit of what he calls the perfect training model for changing lives.

Shortly after Scott graduated he got to see the value of his work and the impact it had on people's lives.

He vowed to change the lives and state of one million people. 

He is currently no where near that target, he is however, "as you will discover" driven to accomplish this task through his innovate schemes /methods and his "can do" ethos.

He continues to inspire others throughout his journey as he balances being a father, husband, business owner AND dealing with his rare heart condition, Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC).
