If you were to get to know me well enough, it would make perfect sense to you why I am so passionate about our God-given freedoms and rights to move freely, choose as we wish, and earn a living how we want.

I was born in a small Eastern European country called Romania, a place whereby being born there, you are des- tined to be indoctrinated with the history of communism, which ruled that country for the better part of the twen- tieth century.

Migration gives a blank cheque to put anything you don’t feel like addressing in the memory hold. No neighbours can go against the monster narrative of your family.

2011 was one of those years in my life that defined me as a human and especially as a Canadian entrepreneur. It was as memorable as the first time I earned a check at the ripe age of 11.

On a typical sunny California morning, I had found myself a week before my 25th birthday, at a week-long weight loss camp in Malibu, just outside of LA, a place popularly known on television as the Biggest Loser Resort.

At the beginning of that year, I had weighed 420 pounds, so as a reward for losing 190 pounds in ten months, I treated myself to a trip to this weight loss camp.

As a general rule of biology, migratory species are less ‘aggressive’ than sedentary ones. There is one obvious reason why this should be so.

The migration itself, like the pilgrimage, is the hard journey: a ‘leveller’ on which the ‘fit’ survive and stragglers fall by the wayside.

The journey thus pre-empts the need for hierarchies and shows of dominance. The ‘dictators’ of the animal kingdom are those who live in an ambience of plenty.

The anarchists, as always, are the ‘gentlemen of the road’.
