The Cannon Cruisers

Happy New Year, horror fans! JD and Randy are back with yet another exciting episode of Cannon Cruisers. This time, they take a deep dive into the 1980 slasher film "New Year's Evil." They take you on a wild ride through the film's chilling narrative, exploring how it combines the festive elements of New Year's Eve with the spine-tingling thrills of the horror slasher.

We are the Cannon Cruisers! JD and Randy dive into the 1980 film "Dr Heckyl and Mr Hype," directed and written by Charles B. Griffith. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if the classic novella "Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde" took a comedic turn, then this film is your answer. But be warned, it’s not your typical horror-comedy.

Schizoid (1980) - Slasher Mystery Thriller

Hey Cannon Cruisers fans! Randy here! "Sick with revenge, twisted with hate." That's how the trailer introduces David Paulsen's 1980 horror thriller Schizoid, also known as Murder by Mail. Klaus Kinski stars as psychiatrist Peter Fales, whose group therapy patients are being murdered. Marianna Hill plays Julie, an advice columnist caught up in the mystery, with Christopher Lloyd appearing among the suspects.

For our very first episode, JD and I discuss how Schizoid fits into the early slasher genre before its familiar formula became established. We also get into the film's questionable detective work and its attempts to keep everyone looking suspicious. And there's one particularly abrupt editing choice that caught me completely off guard.
