Description:

This week's edition of the Captain Maniac Show presents a selection of songs that reference jail, prison, The Big House, the brig, the clink, the hoosegow, the joint, the pen, the pokie, the slammer in Lock Him Up! In other words, tunes with a definite incarceration theme. We start off with the number you'd expect, namely Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy, However, the song that follows is the ZZ Top version of Jailhouse Rock -- rather than present the often-played Elvis Presley take, and despite the fact that Elvis is on our show artwork, unfortunately Elvis is nowhere to be found in this installment. But send our mail to the Tijuana Jail!

A man went to see his doctor with an unusual symptom. "Doc, I can't stop singing The Green, Green Grass of Home".

The doctor replied, "That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome"

"Is it common?"

"It's not unusual."

Description:

Although this week's episode borrows from a Guns 'n Roses album title, we thought it would be nifty to broadcast an entire show with about lies, lying, fabrications & deceptions. As usual, there are plenty of songs out there that take on this subject matter, so for your approval, here's a small sampling of that particular classification. The recently-departed Michael Burt gets things off to a rip-roaring start (his voice was recorded at the Biltmore in Vancouver a few months ago), and from there a cross-section of music genres is exuberantly presented, with your mind in mind! In the words of Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Don't ask me no questions, and I won't tell you no lies"!

Description:

After several requests, we've chosen to devote Monday's show to the animals - no, not the British Invasion band with Eric Burdon and certainly not the demented drummer on the Muppet Show. On the contrary, every song in this episode mentions some sort of animal in the title, and as you may have correctly surmised, once again there are PLENTY of songs where that happens (and as a result, some of your favourites may not be represented). However, we will be presenting just a small sample, with more to come in a forthcoming chapter. (Talk to the Animals: if I'm not mistaken, that was a song from the Rex Harrison film Doctor Dolittle, which unfortunately fails to make it on to this week's program, but which may see the light of day at a later date.) As MC5 told us, "Call Me Animal"!

In our return to our sporadic but ongoing rockabilly series, we start off tonight's show with "Hey Little Lucy" by Vancouver BC songwriter (and good buddy), Vic Hildebrandt. His intention was "to write a rockabilly song", and while there's a decidedly ancient Conway Twitty song of the same name, Vic definitely succeeded in bringing rockabilly to the 21st Century! Mind you, rockabilly music *already* exists in the here and now, so with that in mind, we present present-day rockabilly with bands like The Green Men From Mars and The Bopshack Stompers, And by request, we also include a sampling of Western Swing , along with our regularly-scheduled roster of 50s sideburned rockers!
