Hey, we’re The Carb Loaders - three mates who love footy and food a little too much!

Covid-19 has caught up with the Carb Loaders, which forced us to have our first-ever virtual episode of the Carb Loaders. But just because we’re not in the same room, doesn’t mean we don’t have the laughs and fun…we just don’t always have Sam’s mic.

But we begin the episode by chatting about a hard-core West Coast fan who bought a dinner with Harley Reid and Nic Naitanui for $110,000. So it begged the question: who would we pay $110,000 to have dinner with? The conversation quickly became very philosophical (and slightly political) as we listed our perfect “dinner party”...including Harold Holt, Kobe Bryant and Genghis Khan.

Then we brought in a new segment, “The Film Club” where we get inspired by the movie, “10 Things I Hate About You” to create our list of 10 things we hate, where we find out the endless efforts Hamish has made to get Pizza Hut as a sponsor and Sam’s disdain for mashed potatoes.

Today is a historic day for the Carb Loaders, as we have our first-ever guest…Cardman22! Yes, Cardy joins us as we discuss a weekend of footy that was riddled with umpiring controversy and late-game heroics. We discuss the Izak Rankine half-marathon he ran down the wing of the MCG and counsel Sam through the aftermath of the Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide craziness.

Then we chat with Cardman22 about his journey to becoming a Footy Content Creator and hear a little bit about his career ambitions. We also put him to the test to see how many Footy Cards of the last 15 years he can recognise…fair to say, he lives up to the name “Cardman”.

Then to finish, we go to the Taste Test Segment (which we still haven’t decided on a name for) with a cup of milk filled with Cheetos.

In today’s episode, we celebrate a weekend of wonderful footy, that was capped off with some Harley Reid euphoria, Hawthorn heroics and a Collingwood fan giving West Coast’s Harvey Johnston a pat on the head…and getting banned for 12 months as a result!

After that, Hamish introduces us to his brand new game show - “The Cost is Correct” (which totally isn’t related to “The Price is Right” for any lawyers who are listening) where Sam and Jay try and guess the price of AFL related items, including a Meat Pie at the MCG.

Then to finish, we go to the Taste Test Segment (which we still haven’t decided on a name for) with a plate of Oreos dipped in Dijon Mustard.

In today’s episode, we honour an AFL player that truly embodies the heart of a Carb Loader…Logan Morris. Morris debut for the Brisbane Lions on Sunday Night (hours after playing a VFL game) on the diet of an Angus Burger from Macca’s. This got us thinking: what’s the WORST pre-game meal imaginable?

After that, we introduce a couple of new segments. Sam has a fun logo guessing game that is preposterously favourable towards Jay’s favourite sports over Hamish’s. Then Hamish brings us across the Pacific Ocean for “Kiwi Korner”.

Then to finish, we try Sam’s newest food creation…Milo with Orange Juice

We’ve all seen star players get injured in the line of fire during the game…but have you seen it happen to the coach? Well, the Minnesota Timberwolves did and this led to an interesting discussion on whether you’d rather lose a bench warmer or a coach to an injury.

Anzac Day also came and went without a winner thanks to an anticlimactic draw, but it did hold Jamie Elliott’s potential mark of the year. We chat about the mark, whether the AFL should bring in overtime and how much commentary affects a good mark.

Then to finish off, we live up to the “Carb Loaders” by trying Jay’s Mum’s absurd delicacy…Raisin Toast with Vegemite! And, yes, it’s as disgusting as it sounds!

Today we kick-started our brand new podcast with the all-important question…what’s the best sporting event in the world? We each spent many painstaking minutes putting together our list of the top 5 sporting events every year - making sure to keep our Australian bias well and truly present.

We also discussed the AFL umpire's latest botch-up when they let Sam Draper have a nap on the footy in the dying seconds of Adelaide vs Essendon, whether or not there’s really an “Everything is $5” restaurant at Marvel Stadium and Sam’s long journey to Hawthorn vs North Melbourne on a very powerful Lime Scooter.

Then to finish, we begin our journey of becoming UFC experts with the question that plagues every UFC fan…who would win in a fight between Postman Pat and Fireman Sam?
