A Public Affair

The Case Against the Filibuster and Redistricting in Wisconsin

Listen Later

Filibuster. It’s a word you might be hearing a lot lately, especially as the Senate has begun debating new voting rights protections this week.
First up on today’s show, Wednesday host Carousel Bayrd talks to professor Caroline Fredrickson to learn about the history of the filibuster and why many are calling to abolish it.
Then, John Johnson shares the latest in Wisconsin’s voting map redistricting process.
Caroline Fredrickson is a distinguished visiting lecturer at Georgetown Law and a senior fellow at the Brennan Center. She served as the president of the American Constitution Society (ACS) from 2009 to 2019 and is the author of several books, including The Democracy Fix: How to Win the Fight for Fair Rules, Fair Courts, and Fair Elections (New Press, 2019).
John Johnson is a research fellow in the Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education at Marquette University Law School.
