This hike occurred on November 27, 2024. It was the day before my 58th birthday. The Black Branch Trail is rated as easy on Alltrails and the trail fits the description. There are a couple of mild inclines but the trail itself is flat mostly smooth and wide. There is one small stream crossing but other than that there are no other scenic views or things to see. It is, however, a  really pleasant walk in the woods and if you have an older dog like I do it should be the perfect outing.

September always feels like the perfect time to hike, especially in Mill Creek Canyon, Salt Lake City, where on odd-numbered days, dogs can roam off-leash. Over the past week, Godfrey and I took on two trails: on September 3rd we did the more strenuous Dog Lake hike, followed by a gentler hike along the Mount Olympus Pipeline Trail on September 5th. These hikes not only gave me the chance to soak in the beauty of the area but also some time to reflect on how I’ve adjusted to the challenges of both age and maintaining Godfrey’s health.

Godfrey and I started out about 9:30 am. About a half hour later than I wanted because of traffic on the way. This will teach me to leave the house earlier in the summer months. The weather was cool, in the 70s but it was pretty humid with dew points in the mid 60s. It also rained on us a couple of times but it was fairly light and honestly a welcome event because of the humidity.

The trail is rated easy and rightfully so. It's also short. But worth it when you get to the falls. It's a wide trail that looks like it's more used for ATVs or dirt bikes.  There are two waterfalls at the end of this trail. It takes some minor scrambling to get up to one and down to the other. It's perfect for bringing your dog though. Even my 9 year old Labrador, Godfrey, had no trouble getting up and down to the falls.

It was another beautiful mid-spring day with bright sun and temps in the 60s. Godfrey and I started out the hike around 9:30 am. We were set for what was billed as an easy 4 mile hike that followed a couple creeks with some waterfalls to view... according to Alltrails. This was not correct.

7.7 mile hike near Clayton Georgia with my dog Godfrey. We hiked through a trail that's flanked by huge rhododendrons and baby pines. The midway point of this out and back trail is where you meet Three Forks. It had rained recently and the streams were flowing strong. It was a beautiful early spring day.

My first hike on this podcast without my dog Godfrey. I'm at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, GA. This is the inner loop and it's about 6 miles. It was a picture perfect day for a hike in the last week of winter on Pi Day!
