  • 28 - The Good Samaritan: Would You Actually Help?

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

A man is bleeding on the side of the road, and the “religious professionals” keep walking. Then the person everyone expects to be the villain becomes the hero. That’s the sting of the Good Samaritan, and we lean into it with zero shortcuts.

We talk through why a Samaritan helping a Jew would have sounded outrageous to Jesus’ audience, and why the priest and Levite may have had reasons that feel practical but still miss the point. We also get honest about the spiritual life: it’s not only about the sins we commit, but the good we omit when the Holy Spirit nudges us toward mercy and we choose convenience instead.

Then we explore an ancient Catholic interpretation that flips the script. What if Jesus is the Good Samaritan and we are the wounded man? The road from Jerusalem down to Jericho becomes a symbol of humanity’s fall, and the Samaritan’s care becomes a story of salvation: God’s search for man, God drawing close in the mess, God paying the price to heal what we cannot heal ourselves.

We close with real-world Christian charity and Catholic social teaching: restoring human dignity, asking a person’s name, and offering help that is both compassionate and prudent. • BONUS 27 - Who Are The Philistines?

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

We trace David and Goliath back to the real forces behind the conflict, from Philistine power to the trade routes that made the region wealthy and violent. We connect that history to Daniel’s prophecy and to Jesus, showing why worldly strength never delivers the salvation it promises.
    • the Philistines as a coastal power tied to trade and wealth
    • the Via Maris trade route as a key to regional control
    • Israel’s tribal division and why a common threat forces unity
    • modern parallels to ancient choke points and today’s conflicts
    • iron weapons technology and the temptation to trust strength
    • Daniel’s vision of the stone that topples the empires
    • Jesus building a kingdom through humility and the rock of Peter

  • 27 - David & Goliath: The Bible's Biggest Underdog

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

A giant walks onto the battlefield and everyone freezes. Israel has a king, an army, and plenty of reasons to feel “secure” on paper, yet fear still wins the day. We dig into David and Goliath as more than a children’s story, asking what the text actually reveals about power, intimidation, and why the strongest option is not always the faithful one. If you’ve ever stared down a problem that feels oversized, this conversation is for you.

We talk through the ancient idea of champion warfare, why Goliath’s challenge is meant to break Israel’s spirit, and why Saul’s leadership turns shaky when his trust is rooted in numbers and authority instead of God. Then David arrives as the least likely fighter: a shepherd, not a soldier, already formed by quiet responsibility and hard work. His refusal of Saul’s armor becomes a key moment, showing that borrowed confidence and worldly status cannot replace identity, vocation, and the grace of God.

From there we widen the lens to big Catholic themes: providence, the lowly raised up, and the way the Old Testament points forward to Jesus. David prefigures Christ, not by winning through brute force, but by showing how humility defeats pride and how God can act through weakness. We also connect the story to daily life with a grounded take on habits, discipline, and prayer: get naturally ordered, then let the supernatural life build courage that holds up under pressure.

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

We talk with a former sister whose first major assignment after vows puts her in the Vatican serving Pope Francis, and she shares how quickly the rose-colored expectations meet real pressure. We relive a papal dinner moment where exhaustion turns “What’s next?” into an accidental command to send everyone to bed.
    • being transferred to the Vatican as a newly professed sister and feeling the shock of the assignment
    • serving Pope Francis directly and supporting the demands of a major apostolic visit to the United States
    • the hidden logistics behind papal travel including rest, routines, and constant coordination
    • the grind of late dinners, early prayers, and accumulating exhaustion on the road
    • a misunderstood question at dinner that leads to a blunt bedtime announcement and a laugh from the Holy Father
    • the habit of speaking truth to power and why that can be hard inside convent life

  • 26 - Jonah Vs God: Why Run When You Are Chosen? (Feat: @ExNunOnTheRun)

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

Jonah isn’t just a story about a whale. It’s about running from a calling that feels too difficult, too uncomfortable, or too costly.

In this episode, we’re joined by Marilis Pineiro, known online as @exnunontherun, whose own journey mirrors that struggle in unexpected ways. Marilis shares how she left New York City to pursue religious life, spent eight years as a Franciscan sister, and ultimately discerned that God was calling her down a different path. We talk about the challenges of leaving the convent, rediscovering purpose, and learning to trust God even when the road ahead isn’t clear.

Along the way, Marilis reflects on how experiences like walking the Camino de Santiago helped reshape her understanding of vocation, identity, and mission. Her story opens the door to a deeper conversation about Jonah: his attempt to flee from God's call, the storm that followed, and the surprising lessons waiting on the other side of surrender.

Together, we explore why we resist God's invitations, how fear can quietly direct our decisions, and what it means to be prophetic in today's world—not by seeking attention, but by speaking truth with humility and love. We also unpack the often-overlooked ending of Jonah's story, where God's mercy challenges our desire to see justice on our own terms.

If you've ever felt God nudging you toward something that seemed impossible, uncomfortable, or uncertain, this episode is for you.

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

We rethink Samson as a deeply flawed deliverer and see how God works through failure without endorsing it. We connect Judges to the whole Bible and trace how Christ shields His Bride where human strength falls apart.
    • Samson not as a model to copy but a warning with hope
    • the Old Testament as honest history that reveals the human condition
    • one God across both testaments and one story of salvation
    • Samson’s angelic announcement and the theme of hospitality
    • Nazirite identity and the danger of self-justified “my way” religion
    • donkey symbolism and protecting God’s people with right intention
    • Adam and Eve alongside Samson and Delilah as failed protection
    • Jesus as the opposite image who shields the Church from evil
    • Saint Bernadette’s warning about bad Catholics and life without grace

  • 25 - Samson: The Bibles Biggest Hero or Biggest Mess?

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

Samson sounds like a Bible-era superhero, but his story is really about what happens when spiritual strength outpaces spiritual maturity. We walk through the wild, complicated narrative from the Book of Judges and ask the question people still argue about: is Samson a hero, a failure, or somehow both?

We start with the world Samson is born into, a season of Israel marked by moral confusion and “everyone doing what seems right in their own eyes.” From there, we unpack the Nazirite vow and what it means to be set apart for God, not as a quirky ancient rule set but as a living framework for holiness, discipline, and fidelity. Then we follow the unraveling: touching death, chasing desire, and slowly treating God’s gift like personal property instead of a sacred trust.

Delilah becomes the turning point, not just as a character, but as a mirror for disordered love, idolization, and the kind of pride that tells us we can bend the rules without losing the blessing. Finally, we talk about Samson’s captivity, his last prayer, and the self-sacrificial end that brings real redemption, plus a fascinating note on biblical archaeology and Philistine temple pillars that grounds the story in history.

We trace why temptation appears in Eden and why God’s love makes real choice unavoidable. We connect Genesis to the New Adam and New Eve, then follow the story all the way to the Cross as the true Tree of Life.
    • why fallen angels matter for understanding the serpent in the garden
    • free will before the fall and why omniscience does not erase choice
    • concupiscence as the wound that changes how we desire and decide
    • the Old Testament law as boundaries that cannot heal the heart
    • Christ fulfilling the law through love, plus commission and omission
    • Jesus as the New Adam and Mary as the New Eve in salvation history
    • why the fruit is not called an apple and why fig shows up
    • nakedness, shame, and a Theology of the Body lens on distortion
    • the Tree of Life, protection after sin, and the Cross as fulfillment

  • 24 - Adam & Eve: What Actually Happened in the Garden?

Have a question about your faith or a thought about the podcast? Click here to send us a message—we’d love to hear from you!

The Garden of Eden story is familiar, but the details still sting: if God is good, why is there a forbidden tree in the middle of paradise? Jordan Whiteko sits down with Father Christopher Pujol and Father Andrew Hamilton to slow down Genesis and take it seriously, not as a myth you outgrow, but as a story that keeps explaining us. Along the way we challenge the idea that God is a cosmic tempter and look at the tree of the knowledge of good and evil as a boundary connected to freedom, formation, and real human maturity.

We also talk about what the Catholic Church actually teaches about Adam and Eve as real people and why the Church leaves room for questions about how human origins unfold. That opens up a surprisingly modern thread about consciousness, wisdom, and even whether AI could ever be “sentient” in a human sense. But the heart of the conversation stays grounded in spiritual life: the serpent’s strategy is to plant insecurity by accusing God of withholding, and once insecurity takes root, sin starts to look like self-protection.

From there, we trace what happens next: blame, shame, hiding, and God’s haunting question, “Where are you?” We connect that to why confession can feel terrifying and how healing starts when we stop running and start telling the truth. Finally, we zoom out to salvation history, the “happy fault,” and the Catholic tradition of Mary as the new Eve, where what was lost is restored and elevated in Christ.

Bonus Episode — Answering the Call: Father Andrew Hamilton & Father Chris Pujol

Have you ever wondered why a perfect God would create anything at all? In this conversation, we explore how the logic of love—revealed in the Trinity—turns that question from a puzzle into a personal invitation. One of us shares the journey from seeing liturgy as “just a show” to discovering how Scripture, reason, and prayer reveal our true identity: made in the image and likeness of God. That realization reshapes our desires, redeems suffering, and makes real transformation possible.

The other reflects on a quieter call to priesthood—set aside for years while life offered other paths—until grace and freedom met in a wholehearted yes. Together, we talk about the slow work of discernment: why readiness matters, how seminary life nurtures vocations, and how faith and reason work hand in hand to open us to truth, goodness, and beauty.

This conversation isn’t just for those discerning priesthood—it’s for anyone searching for purpose, rebuilding faith, or trying to understand how love and meaning fit into the story of their life. We offer reflections, practical steps, and encouragement to trust where the seeds of your own calling might be taking root.
