In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus encouraged His disciples to seek only the approval of the Heavenly Father and play to an audience of One. He urged them not to be people pleasers seeking to impress others, because a few will cheer and a few will jeer. If you get your self-worth from the approval of people, your mood and your performance are going to be erratic. But God is faithful. He is always rooting for you. He wants the best for you and, in the end, it’s only His favor that matters. Matthew 6:1 – 4 is the main text… 1“Take care! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired, because then you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. 2When you give a gift to someone in need, don’t shout about it as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! Christians are to be different than the world in dealing with people who are hard to live with. We are not into revenge but rather into forgiveness and overlooking wrongs.
