In this episode we have a guest Shreepriya Menon. Sreepriya Menon is a mental health social worker who has completed her Masters in Social Work from TISS, Mumbai and M Phil from NIMHANS, Bengaluru. She is currently working for an NGO in Delhi. She also works with individuals, families, and organizations to promote mental health awareness and build collaborations. She is the editor of an evolving initiative called The Good People Diaries which aims to explore and document stories of change brought about by people and social endeavors. She is interested in intersections of mental health with language, social structures and culture.
We will discuss the difference between a psychiatrist, a psychologist, and a Psychiatric social worker. We will discuss whom can we approach when we need to see someone with our mental health problems or the first step we can take.
We will also discuss Sreepriya Menon's work with children with Autism and learn about her collaboration with ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist).
Also, some of the conversations we are having are in the Indian context. Like the discussion around a regulatory body.
I have attached any resource we talk about in the show notes.Like a link to DSM5 or ICD-11. So do check them out if you like.
I hope you enjoy the episode and find it useful.
