Lisa Tahir is my guest today and a fellow podcaster. She talks about mental health in her podcast All Things Therapy. Lisa is the founder of Psycho Astrology and The Chiron Effect. Check out her online class 20 Spiritual Tools for Change, which has been endorsed by the Dali Lama.
Her Past Story
She grew up in a family which measured your worth from your monetary income and factors you could measure on paper. Her father was an immigrant who came to America with $20, landed in New York, went to med school, and became a doctor. “On the one hand, I was watching my father do everything and on the other hand, I was oppressed and I often did not feel seen or heard.”
Lisa didn’t understand her value and worth and ended up becoming a drug addict and following people who weren’t a good influence on her growing up. She realized that this was not a positive path to take and switched gears in adulthood.
Driving Force as an Adult
After she attended therapy to heal herself, Lisa wanted to create a new story in her life. “Through the western model of therapy and being fortunate enough to find two people to go through the valleys and peaks with me.” She practices Reiki and meditation, which augments her healing journey as she continuously improves herself.
Trauma in a Relationship
Usually, when people experience trauma, it's with a person they have a standing relationship with. "For that reason, trauma digs deep and affects people profoundly." Healing in the context of a safe connection can be a powerful space to let go of the negative messaging received early in life.
Advice to Break the Cycle of Attracting Negative People
“The experiences we are having in our daily lives are a reflection of what we believe is true for us.” To have healthy relationships, you’ll need to show up for yourself, including setting boundaries with others and yourself.
