In this passage the apostle Paul explains to us how :
1. the Christian must follow the apostolic teaching and example.
2. the Christian must exercise his potential to be an encouraging example to other believers, just as Paul’s example of faithfulness in the midst of suffering encourages the Philippians.
3. the Christian must have a burden for the progress of the Gospel, supporting such work in every way he can.
4. the Christian must trust to God’s providence in the midst of adversity, for God’s grace is always sufficient to help in the midst of great trial.
5. the Christian must keep on bearing fruit, as these Philippians did, for our service is a sweet-smelling sacrifice to God.
6. Finally, those who are trusting Christ in all circumstances, no matter what the difficulties, will not be overwhelmed, and will be able to do all things through Christ who strengthens them .
