The church of Christ on McDermott Road

We overcome the world by faith. That is, we overcome the world by being loyal to King Jesus. Just as Jesus overcame the world through faithfulness and loyalty, so too we overcome the world through faithfulness and loyalty. We need not fear the world, we need only believe that Jesus Christ truly is the Son of God. (Scripture: 1 John 5:1-5)

Summer Series 2024 - Lesson 12

God saves us and transforms, but that doesn’t mean a relationship with him is passive. We must actively abide (remain) in him. John reveals how we abide in God. He also reveals the benefits we enjoy when we are committed to maintaining an intimate relationship with God. (Scripture: 1 John 4:13-16)

Summer Series 2024 - Lesson 11

There were false prophets in the first century, but there are also false prophets today. A prophet is anyone who claims to have a word from the Lord. They often claim to give God’s thoughts on current events. John helps us understand how to test the spirits. He gives us the confidence to vigilantly watch out for false teachers, who claim to speak on God’s behalf. (Scripture: 1 John 4:1-6)

Summer Series 2024 - Lesson 10

Love for the church is further evidence that a person is a child of God. Specifically, Christians should be committed to loving one another the way Jesus loved us, sacrificially and “in deed and in truth.” (Scripture: 1 John 3:16-18)

Summer Series 2024 - Lesson 9

Who we claim to be, what we claim we want, and where we claim our loyalties lie is one thing, but the truth is revealed by what we practice. John says if we are born of God, we will practice righteousness and if we are born of Satan, we will practice sin. It’s time to examine our loyalties by examining our practices. (Scripture: 1 John 2:28-29)
