Nothing is more distressing than sin within a family. Conflict, betrayal, and unresolved tension can tear relationships apart. Jesus gave His disciples a practical, grace-filled process for addressing sin within the community of faith. This process reflects God’s heart: He wants reconciliation, not separation. He wants his family to be characterized by forgiveness and restoration. When we follow Jesus’ instructions—rather than reacting in fear, outrage, and panic—even the most painful family conflicts can become opportunities for God’s grace to do its most powerful work. (Matthew 18:15-20)

Stress is a universal experience, and family life can be one of its greatest sources. Bills pile up, schedules become impossible, relationships strain, and we find ourselves running on empty. Paul’s instruction to “not be anxious about anything” is not a command to pretend problems don’t exist, it’s an invitation to bring every problem to God in prayer. When we do, God promises something remarkable: a peace that “surpasses all understanding.” It doesn’t make sense given the circumstances. But it is real, and it is available to every one of us. (Philippians 4:4-9)

Promises get broken by parents, spouses, friends, children, governments, and institutions. The disappointment of broken promises can shake our faith, breed bitterness, and leave us feeling abandoned. Psalm 146 reminds us that while human beings are unreliable, God is not. He “keeps faith forever.” Every promise he has ever made, he will keep. As we celebrate the spiritual milestones of our kindergarteners today, we are reminded that the most important foundation we can give the next generation is trust in the God who never breaks his promises. (Psalm 146)

Plans fall apart. Crops fail. Jobs are lost. Relationships break down. Families face hardships no one saw coming. Habakkuk came to realize life does not always go according to plan. Yet, in one of the most powerful statements of faith in all of Scripture, he chose to rejoice in God anyway—not because things always go well, but because God is still God even when they don’t. This Mother’s Day, we honor mothers who have faced the unexpected with faith rather than fear, and we remind every family that because God is our strength, we can face any circumstance with calm assurance. (Scripture: Habakkuk 3:17-19)

Eeternity is real, our opportunity is now, and the mission of Jesus belongs to all of us. In Luke 16, the story of the rich man and Lazarus shows the contrast between the way people live in this life and the eternal realities that follow. Through Christ, God offers eternal life instead of eternal destruction, and Jesus calls His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. As God’s fellow workers, we may plant or water, but we trust God to give the growth. We are not just attending church for a few hours each week; we are the church every day, joining the mission of Jesus to help change eternity for others. (Scripture: Romans 10:13-16)

God’s word —his instructions, rules, and wisdom—should be stored up in our hearts. Jesus is the ultimate example of someone who embodied the word of God, who had the word stored up inside of him. Like Jesus, we should also embody the word. This doesn’t mean just learning facts about Bible stories, but applying the truths of Scripture to our lives, so that we become more like Jesus. (Scripture: Psalm 119:9-16)

1 Corinthians 15 is Paul’s response to the claim that God will not raise the dead from their graves. Many people in the ancient world (and in today’s world) mocked that idea. However, Paul used the resurrection of Jesus to prove that resurrection has already begun. What God did for Jesus, he will do for us. Our resurrection bodies will be “spiritual,” but this does not mean ethereal or non-physical. It means they will be a product of the Spirit’s creation, rather than a product of natural procreation. Since we know for a fact that our bodies will be transformed into immortal Spirit-created bodies, we should be fearlessly abounding in the work of the Lord, making sure that we don’t do anything to compromise our inheritance of the world to come. (Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:50-58)

One of the few things the New Testament says about where Christians go when we die is that we will be “with the Lord.” In the disembodied state of death, we will apparently be with the Lord in the heavenly paradise. Even though this is not our final state, it should give us an incredible amount of confidence and courage, knowing we will be with the Lord when we die. However, it should also make us consider if we are truly walking by faith while we are still in this body. (Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10)

Other tombs were temporarily emptied, when people were raised from the dead. However, death eventually took each resurrected person back to the grave. Until Jesus, it seemed that death eventually won against everyone. Jesus, however, completely conquered death. He was raised never to die again. Because of his sinlessness, death had no claim on him. This Easter, we will talk about how death no longer has power of us, because we are in Christ. Therefore, we can be Christ’s fearless disciples, mocking death’s powerlessness over us. (Scripture: John 20:24-31)

Fear and the flesh go hand in hand. Those who live according to the flesh—according to earthly markers of status, belonging, and righteousness—are slaves of fear. For the first-century Jew, that may have meant circumcision and dietary restrictions. For the first-century Greek or Roman, that might have meant wealth and honor. In the twenty-first century world, there are plenty of spirits of slavery, but we have been liberated from them all. Because we have received the Spirit of adoption, we can live fearlessly and faithfully. We don’t need the testimony of the flesh to say we are enough, because the Holy Spirit testifies we are God’s children.(Scripture: Romans 8:12-17)
