The church of Christ on McDermott Road

Jesus calls giving to the needy, “practicing your righteousness.” Have we ever stopped to think about generosity that way, as practicing righteousness? Similar to the way a doctor practices medicine, God’s people are to practice righteousness. In this lesson we will explore what Jesus says concerning the right ways and wrong ways to practice righteousness and how generosity a spiritual discipline that affects your relationship with your heavenly Father?

We explore the opportunity we have had, and continue to have, to read and study our Bibles during our recent "stay at home" period.

The kingdoms of the earth hate and destroy their enemies, but the people of Jesus’ kingdom love and bless their enemies. This is one of the primary distinctions between heaven’s kingdom and other kingdoms, so how are enemies treated and talked about in your home?

Lying, deceiving, and misleading people is part of the accepted way of doing business in the kingdoms of the world. However, Jesus calls the people of his kingdom to be people of truth, who say what is true and follow through on what they pledge to do. What does your family do to uphold a standard of truth?

Our world teaches us that our heart should call the shots; if we want to do something or we feel like doing something, then we should follow our heart. Jesus, on the other hand, teaches kingdom people to control their eyes, their hearts, their bodies and their minds. Is your family reinforcing a message of “follow your heart” or “control your heart”?
