Gary Burbank is a radio legend in Cincinnati and indeed nationwide, thanks to characters like Gilbert Gnarley and Earl Pitts, American. He joins us to talk about the time Elvis gave him a lift-- and for the first time, we get the complete, verified story. Gary also talks about "Sports or Consequences," including the time Bob Evans stopped by the studio, the same day a Penthouse pet showed up. We’ll also hear about Gary’s early days as a musician and why he chose to pursue radio, which included stops at WAKY in Louisville and CKLW in Detroit. Careful crossing that border. Heather Johnson moved to Cincinnati from Iowa to work in advertising. In an effort to make friends, she dabbled in stand-up comedy before starting a food blog. Today she’s on the verge of doing that full-time, what with her blog getting hundreds of thousands of hits a month. She talks to us about the beta vs. VHS battle in the blogging world, Cincinnati chili vs. “other chili,” and her initial reaction to the former, reverse engineering dishes to create copycat recipes, the unique things she gets to do as a top food blogger, the best kind of steak to buy, and more.

Can you believe it took us to Episode 119 to talk about the history of Cincinnati chili? We did have Roger David, CEO of Gold Star, on Episode 55, but now we get a detailed overview courtesy of Dann Woellert who wrote the book on Cincinnati chili; literally. The Authentic History of Cincinnati Chili, published in 2012. Also tells us about other food topics he’s written on, including, candy, and old restaurants.

Comedian-As many of you know, one of the owners of Cincy Shirts, Josh Sneed, gave up a career at P&G to pursue stand-up comedy. But he’s not the only person to do that. Indeed, there are a few others including Fairfield native Rajiv Satyal, who joins us via Skype from Los Angeles to discuss his journey from good corporate job to stand-up comic. He also talks about working with Dave Chapelle, combining his comedy and marketing backgrounds, embracing his Indian heritage while also maintaining a mainsstream comedy career AND there’s tea. A rather, intense, shall we say, run-in with another comic.

Jim Sheets was the attorney for Sam the Chimp. Actually, he was hired by Sam’s owner, Kenny Harris, who also owned the Train Stop Inn and Cafe in what used to be called Foster. That's where Sam could be found occasionally hanging out with bar patrons. The bar is just east of Landen on the bike trail and today is called the Monkey Cafe. Kenny and Sam found themselves in some legal trouble brought on by the Humane Society and Jim represented them. Jim not only tells us all about that but about a famous athlete who hired him for a similar case, this one involving the ownership of tigers.

Comedian/actor
Chip Chinery is a stand-up comedian and actor. You may know him more from the latter, but he started telling jokes on stage back in the ‘80s at the age of 16. He started touring a few years after graduating from Miami University up in Oxford. He wound up in Hollywood in the early 90s and has since been in tons of commercials, TV shows, and movies. In addition to comedy and acting, he’s adept at managing his money and shares his tips via a blog that’s separate from his website called Chip’s Money Tips.

He is our first stay-at-home order guest. Rob talks about being stationed in South Korea as a kid barely out of high school, working in college radio during the heyday of that format, and, of course, his days at 97X and working on the Gary Burbank Show.
