Publisher's Summary:
When a major Parisian modern art event gets unexpected attention on live TV, Chief of Police Nico Sirsky and his team of elite crime fighters rush to La Villette park and museum complex. There, renowned artist Samuel Cassian is inaugurating the first archeological dig of modern art, 27 years after burying the leftovers of a banquet. In front of reporters from around the world, excavators uncover a skeleton. Could it be the artist's own son? And does that death have anything to do with the current string of nightclub murders by the "Paris Butcher"? On the site of the French capital's former slaughterhouses, the investigation takes Nico and France's top criminal investigation division from artists' studios to autopsy theaters and nightclubs in hopes of tracking down the murderer who has turned this Paris park into a city of blood.
Members Reviews:
Either poorly written or poorly translated
I'm simply baffled as to all the reviews here saying what a wonderful book this is. I understand that fiction is almost entirely a matter of personal taste, but....really? Generally I'm hesitant to say the problem with a translated book is that it's poorly written, but this one was either poorly written or poorly translated. It's certainly one or the other. From a reader's standpoint, I don't guess it matters because what you have left is a flat and lifeless narrative that wasn't engaging in any way. Then why are so many people recommending this book? Beats me.
A fun change of pace
An excellent police procedural based in Paris, and full of references to the buildings and history of the city. While I personally have never been to Paris, the crimes and their telling were atmospheric. This added a pleasant novelty to the story. The story itself had an excellent plot and clever resolution.
I love this series of books
As a francophile and crime novel enthusiast, I love this series of books. I am transported to my beloved Paris in the middle of a fast-paced, exciting mystery to be solved by a brilliant detective!
Mysterious to the end.
I was captivated to the very end. Could not put the book down. The author makes it personal for the reader. You become involved with Nick, his family and his team. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a great mystery.
Excellent read
