We love to read books that tell the story of a business maverick that blazed new trails. We feel inspired, moved even, to play at the top of our game. But blazing new trails is no easy rodeo! I call it launching a "white space" business. When there is little to no context to this thing that you're trying to do, Best Practices will not help you much. White space launches are a breed all their own. Knowing the unique landscape going in will save you years, and TONS of heartache.
Have you ever wondered how visionaries find The Big Idea that soars? The simple answer is unconventional thinking and creating. But how to engage with that process if that's not your wheelhouse? In this episode, I introduce you to a process I have taught non-creatives to take any idea to a whole new level; a book idea, starting a social enterprise, growing your existing brand, it doesn't matter. Enjoy!
A lovely couple who own a health supplement store retained me almost two decades ago. Initially, I helped them triple their revenue. Then I helped them sell off a big chunk of their business, so they could focus entirely on the wellness space. They joined an elite program I used to teach (and will be offering again), and as a result of that journey, they decided to chart entirely new territory. But they hit a wall, a big one. I sent them two simple questions and that wall crumbled. Today, I share those two questions with you. Enjoy!
The demands of life to take us away from being in the moment. Thing is, when we rush and react our way through life, we miss out on life. Autopilot is not a viable option for a meaningful life. Conversely, when are fully present for the moments of our life and work, not only do we feel more fulfilled as human beings, our effectiveness soars.
Our life's work is about so much more than our professional accomplishments. When push comes to shove, who are you? What has your life been about? Do you feel trapped by your work or empowered? It's easy to get lost in the rat race and thus blast past the impact you're having in all areas of your life. Perhaps this brief episode will give you the clarity you see.
Multi-generational business owners struggle with blazing their own trail. I mean, why change things? The family approach has worked for generations, why mess with a good thing? And then 9-11 happens, or COVID, or a new, strong competitor. Responding to a sudden need to innovate is never a good thing. The good news is, taking your multi-generational business to the next level happens from a simple, honoring concept.
Our professional lives go through many seasons over the years. Knowing which season we're in or which season we NEED to be in is liberating. Hooking into our purpose during a given era of our human experience allows us to unlock the many treasures of that season.
Elite rainmakers across many professions have one thing in common if they are highly effective, they cherish opposing points of view. Highly effective owners, creators, and activists get the importance of taking wise counsel even if that counsel challenges their point of view. I have spent most of my career giving counsel to such lions (male and female) without hesitation. It has been an honor to do so, here is what I've learned.
Our eyes see but a glimpse, our internal compass, sees so much more than we could ever imagine. We've all heard about concepts like True North but what does that look like in the real world? In this episode, I share a personal story about what that looked like for me in a moment of truth.
How to lead when it feels like the world is burning down around you? How to keep your brand vibrant, and your staff safe, when all the rules are changing, and everything is in the air? In this very tangible episode, I use three coffee houses (privately owned) as a way to explore the importance of innovation during COVID. If your brand is to survive, it first must make the decision to thrive.
