  • Episode 7: Climate Brawl Part. 2

Climate change gets personal when the questions get specific. In the second half of this Climate Versa conversation, Ned Comar pushes Betsy Rosenberg and Charles Rotter past the talking points and onto the hardest questions of all: how much of the warming is ours, what the extreme-weather record really shows, and what happens if either side turns out to be wrong.

After a short break, Ned tries to steer toward a close by asking each guest what still needs to be said. Instead, the conversation goes deeper. Betsy wants to know whether Charles accepts the basics of human-caused climate change at all. Charles answers directly, then takes aim at the evidence for worsening extreme weather, the alarm over a collapsing Atlantic current, and the high-emissions scenario behind decades of climate projections.

    * Charles puts a number on it: the climate changes, humans have an impact, and he estimates human activity explains 20 to 30 percent of recent warming at most

    * A sharp clash over extreme weather, from Bay Area wildfires and winds to a 123°F day in Palm Springs

    * Opposing views on AMOC, the Atlantic current some scientists warn could reach a tipping point, and whether the data can support that fear

    * A pointed question for both guests: would you feel guilty if you turned out to be wrong? It sparks a debate over hunger, crop losses, energy costs, and the biofuel-driven food price spikes of 2007 and 2008

    * The IPCC's move away from RCP 8.5, why Betsy and Charles draw opposite conclusions from it, and Ned's challenge to Betsy to interview Roger Pielke Jr.

Betsy says the damage is already here, in failing crops, rising grocery prices, fires, floods, and hurricanes, and that caution is the responsible bet when some changes can't be reversed. Charles says the record shows nothing outside natural variability, that AMOC alarm rests on thin data, and that the retreat from RCP 8.5 shows how much of the emergency was built on a scenario that was never plausible. Ned keeps pulling them back to the question in front of them, and asks whether today's climate fears echo the overpopulation warnings he grew up with.

If you want to hear what happens when two people who rarely share a room stop circling and take on the specifics, this half delivers. It's tense, frank, and a rare chance to hear both sides make their case on the same questions, one after the other.

  • Episode 6: Climate Brawl Part. 1

Climate change gets real when people stop agreeing and start talking. Ned Comar brings together two longtime climate journalists, Betsy Rosenberg and Charles Rotter, for a blunt, unscripted clash over the science, the politics, and the stakes behind one of the most polarizing issues of our time.

What starts as a conversation about climate quickly becomes a high-voltage test of whether radically different worldviews can coexist in the same room. Betsy argues that the evidence is overwhelming, the risks are accelerating, and mainstream media has failed to connect the dots. Charles pushes back hard, challenging the assumptions, the data, and the credibility of the entire alarmist case.

    •  Betsy Rosenberg trace her path from CBS Radio to decades of environmental reporting and advocacy
    •  Charles Rotter explain how his work with Climate Audit and What's Up With That shaped his skeptical view
    •  A heated back-and-forth over climate models, extreme weather, AMOC, RCP 8.5, and what the numbers actually mean
    •  A fierce debate over who gets to speak for science, and whether journalists can understand the subjects
    •  Ned's attempt to keep the conversation human, even when the room is one step from blowing up

Betsy says the climate crisis is already showing up in food prices, wildfires, droughts, floods, and ecosystem collapse. Charles says the panic is driven by bad models, politicized science, and exaggerated claims that don't hold up under scrutiny. The result is not a tidy debate, but a raw look at how fear, certainty, expertise, and

If you care about climate, media bias, scientific credibility, or the way Americans talk past each other on the biggest issues facing the planet, this episode is essential listening. It's messy, uncomfortable, and completely revealing.

  • Episode 5: Paul Donnelly and Brandon Neider

Welcome to Climate Verso, the podcast where we bring together diverse perspectives to explore the biggest environmental and policy challenges of our time.

In this episode of Climate Verso, Ned Komar expands the show’s format beyond climate and brings together two New York local politicians — Brandon Neider and Paul Donnelly — for a candid, cross-party conversation about the issues shaping their communities.

The discussion starts with their personal paths into politics, from education and local government to union leadership and community advocacy. From there, the conversation moves into practical concerns like school funding, public education, infrastructure, property taxes, zoning, and the challenges facing working families in upstate New York.

As the conversation broadens, the panel takes on bigger questions about partisanship, gun rights, immigration, political polarization, Trump, MAGA, “America First,” executive power, corruption, and the future of American democracy. Even when the debate gets sharp, the tone stays respectful, revealing both the depth of division and the possibility of honest dialogue across ideological lines.

This is a wide-ranging, spirited exchange about what local leadership can do, what national politics gets wrong, and whether Americans can still talk to each other across the aisle.
