To be honest I’ve not paid much attention to the ‘R‘ in SMART Goal Setting, ie. making sure that the goals are REALISTIC. That is until I found myself not achieving some big goals within the timeframes that I had set. Perhaps you’ve experienced this in the frantic lead up to the end of last year?

‘Being too realistic gets in the way of achieving big visions’ was a mantra that I used to trot out and, in the past, I could be known to scowl at people who would try to be ‘too realistic’ when I was coming up with big plans. 

And I do say IN THE PAST…thankfully not any more.

There’s one thing to set big goals, but it’s another way of thinking to ensure that the goals are realistic and achievable.  Maybe you are doing Feb-fast; maybe you’ve set goals at the beginning of the year; maybe you’ve been a bit stuck for motivation around goals or have only just now had the chance to start thinking about your goals?

Back in March when we held our first Coaching Café for the year, we discussed 5 trends in coaching for 2021.  Of course, back then, we had come out of extended lockdowns and for half of Australia, we were definitely not expecting to go back into some of the longest and toughest lockdowns in the world.

How does coaching build workplace engagement? 

How do you go from 65% engagement to 91% in just two years?

We know that coaching builds engagement in the workplace, but what are the actual results and what role does coaching play in building workforce engagement?

For over 10 years Jonathan Millen has been building engagement in his teams using a coaching approach.  

He’s currently Senior Manager Capability for Tabcorp, but he’s going to share with us how he moved a team from 65% engagement to 91%, over the course of two years while at NAB.

Since his early days at National Australia Bank where he inherited a team with 65% engagement and built this to 91% in just two years, to his current role as
