The Coaching Journey is back, and we are excited to unveil a brand new season for our listeners! To start the new season, we decided to change things up a bit, and let you hear an interview where we were the one answering the questions, not asking them.
Last year, we had the opportunity to be a guest on the "On The Touchline" Podcast hosted by Jason Broadwater! It was a great discussion where Jason looked at the origins of The Coaching Journey and my own personal coaching career.
Be sure to follow Jason on Twitter @SoccerCoachJB and give his podcast a listen!
We will be in Baltimore this week for the United Soccer Coaches Convention and we are excited to bring you a great lineup of episodes with some excellent recurring and new guests!

This week on The Coaching Journey Podcast I explore a topic that has been circling my own thoughts recently. As I transition into a new coaching role, I have been wondering how often coaches think of "the next opportunity" and miss out on the present one. How are we finding ways to continually develop ourselves in our roles without always looking for "the next challenge." I share my thoughts in the episode.
This will be our last episode before we begin our summer break. We will not have any new episodes as we take a short hiatus, and after the break we will have some excellent interviews and discussions coming your way. Stay tuned!

With the US Women's National Team having just won their second World Cup in a row, and appearing in 3 finals in a row, today's podcast might seem weird. In fact, over the last few World Cup cycles, I have been wondering if the results we see are happening while stagnation or decline is underway. As coaches, how are we honestly assessing the results while analyzing the overall process? Are we setting ourselves up for success through continual improvement, or are we resting on past successes while others start to bridge the gap?

A conversation I saw on social media yesterday had me thinking on the play-practice-play methodology put forth by the U.S. Soccer Federation. Whether you like it, hate it, or find yourself somewhere in the middle, I shared my thoughts on who it might best serve, how any coach can utilize it, and why a blended approach may be a coach's best friend.

This week, with the Women's World Cup underway and the United States Women's National Team about to play their first game, I have found myself thinking of Tony DiCicco and the conversation I was lucky enough to have with him, as well as his contribution to the game as a coach and coach-educator.
I had the privilege of meeting Tony at a coaching course with what was then the NSCAA, now United Soccer Coaches, and a little while later I was surprised when I found Tony's contact information in the subscriber list of The Coaching Journey's blog. I quickly sent him a message and after a bit of back and forth, we got on the phone and recorded a conversation.
Tony's legacy will never disappear from the game, or from the countless players and coaches he has impacted however big or small. Our conversation, although several years old as of today's release, is still full of valuable and timely pieces of wisdom which is another testament to Tony.
Enjoy the discussion, enjoy just a sliver of wisdom from Tony, and as you watch this year's World Cup, take a moment and think of those who have helped pave the way for today's players and coaches.

This week, The Coaching Journey Podcast is excited to welcome Jamie Hamilton on the show! Jamie is a football coach, barman, as well as a writer on a variety of topics within the sport.
We have a great discussion taking pieces of Jamie's works and going into more detail into subjects affecting all aspects of the game. We look at VAR and question whether it will have positive or negative affects on the game. We talk about coach education and the barriers to entry some enforce with regards to a playing background, as well as alternate coaching resources that continue to pop up. Jamie ponders automation and whether or not it will ever replace the coach, or the barman. It is a fun and interesting conversation focusing on various aspects of the sport with a few different twists added in!
