Riccardo had been working in the private equity and venture capital industry between tel Aviv, Bangkok and Hong Kong before joining Bricks Capital in 2014. Riccardo worked on a variety of deals within their alternative real estate portfolio, including hotel and student accommodation assets with a combined GDV in excess of £400m. Also playing a key role in the development of the True Student Living brand (with over 2,500 units), Riccardo was involved in all aspects of the business from branding, tech, operations, acquisitions and sales. In 2018 Riccardo Co-founded Gravity Co-Living with Susanna Rock.

Robert began working within hospitality straight out of university, quickly progressing to Managing Director and Head of Expansion for Hostel One. Responsible for the guest experience strategies, setup and operations of all new and existing properties. With this experience, Rob set up his own hospitality consultancy, working on a variety of projects ranging from surf camps, hotels, bars, cafes and hostels around the world.

Having experienced the benefits of co-living first hand, he joined Gravity Co-Living as their first hire and has led the development of their operational structure.

Jonathan is currently on secondment to Osborne Clarke’s office in New York where he is advising US companies on English legal matters and supporting their global legal projects. Jonathan is working closely with Osborne Clarke’s international offices and network of law firms around the world with their cross-border real estate and infrastructure projects.

Specific to coliving, Jonathan advises companies in relation to international expansion but also their English real estate requirements. Together with his planning, finance, corporate, employment, IP & tech, commercial and litigation colleagues Jonathan offers his coliving clients a managed service across all legal disciplines.

Tim Rezendes, VP Legal - International, Osborne Clarke:

He provides support and guidance for Osborne Clarke’s US clients as they extend their reach overseas working with a wide network of in-country experts across the globe to ensure a seamless service. He advises fast-growing companies from a number of sectors on both their initial market entry and across a broad range of cross-border issues as they continue to grow overseas. Rhys Williams and Alex Thorpe are the co-founders of UKO Co-Living which is Australia’s first Co-Living operation.

Rhys and Alex pioneered the extended stay furnished accommodation market in Sydney, Australia. They commenced trading a single apartment in 2002 and grew to a portfolio exceeding 400 keys under the Furnished Property brand with a mix of freehold and leasehold assets offering flexible furnished rental accommodation to the extended-stay market. This lead to a move into the hotel market where they established a national network of hotel brands under Veriu Group including Veriu Hotels & Suites in 2015 (384 keys) and the Punthill Apartment Hotels (804 keys) in 2018.

Rhys and Alex have successfully raised capital and joint ventured with publicly listed developers and fund managers such as Folkestone/Chater Hall where they have delivered a $50 million 144 key micro-apartment hotel at Green Square in Sydney which will be marketed as Australia’s first micro-apartment hotel. They also recently completed a $15 million conversion of Wentworth House in Surry Hills into a 112 key hotel. Rhys and Alex have now returned to their rental accommodation roots with the development of the UKO Co-living brand where they are set to carve out a significant transformation of the rental accommodation market in Australia.

UKO has successfully delivered two Co-Living sites in the Sydney in 2019 and will open an additional four sites in 2020. Rhys and Alex are firm believers that the rental market needs to change to meet the needs of the millennial renter and key worker. They believe that efficient micro apartment design with connected communal areas can improve affordability without having to compromise on lifestyle. They also feel that rental accommodation should offer a greater sense of community providing renters with the ability to make social and professional connections in order to combat the rise of loneliness for modern renters. With their roots firmly entrenched in the rental accommodation market, complimented by their experience in hotel development, design and customer service Rhys and Alex are perfectly positioned to transition the Co-Living concept into the Australian market.
