What's up, guys? So what's on my mind today? The color purple. Ok, let's get into this.
So, I'm from the very small rural town of Indianola. It is located in heart of the Mississippi Delta. An area that pushes as far north as the Mississippi board with Memphis TN, and as far south as Yazoo, MS. To the east, the Mississippi delta ends just before Winona, MS, and to the west by the Mississippi River town of Greenville.
There are several things that this area is known for, from some of the worst poverty and injustice in America to the resilient black people and black culture there. The rich culture of music, namely gospel, and blues played perfectly off of each other. The black preacher would often sound like a blues singer, and a blues singer would sound like a preacher both delivering stories of suffering, rejoice, heartache, love, and family. Stories of life. One of the things that I remember hearing the older people say is 'take them to church.'
You should listen to this - Cream by Prince https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r967lcA_rR8 A small section of this in the podcast. But you need to see and listen to the entire video. Remember...grown folks music.
