Everybody wants you to win until you set the price.
In Episode 3 of The Comeback: Real Life Sh!t, LaDàna Young starts with her real experience at DaBaby’s No Knife restaurant in Charlotte and turns it into a bigger conversation about pricing, ownership, criticism, support and what it actually costs to build something.
The wait was long. There were launch-day issues. Some things could have been communicated better. And the food was bomb. All of those things can be true at the same time.
This episode is not an argument for blind support. Customers get to critique service, value and experience. But there is a difference between saying, “That’s too expensive for me,” and deciding a business owner should not be allowed to charge what they believe their product, labor, overhead and risk are worth.
LaDàna also gets into the pressure we put on local and minority-owned businesses, the expectations celebrity businesses carry, and why supporting somebody who is building does not require turning off your critical thinking.
Your comeback assignment:
If you own a business, finish these two sentences:
The price I have been afraid to charge is…
The reason I keep second-guessing it is…
Then make one honest pricing adjustment within the next seven days.
If you are the customer, the next time you catch yourself saying, “They shouldn’t charge that,” try: “That’s not for me.”
After you listen, comment one word under the episode post: BUILDING.
The Comeback: Real Life Sh!t is hosted by LaDàna Young.
