How has the Common Ground helped move forward from a report in late 2024 into action in 2025?
It's been a transformative journey for the team led by Lee-Ann Marsh, General Manager for AGMARDT to get to the point of launching three innovative pilot projects aimed at tackling industry challenges through collaboration.

'Are industry good organisations good for industry?'
That’s the burning question proposed as part of the concept of a collaboration platform - The Common Ground. Join us as we dive into understanding why we need change whilst acknowledging the ‘good’ industry good bodies do have.
This episode, hosted by agricultural journalist Sarah Perriam-Lampp featuring AGMARDT Chair, Nick Pyke with previous experience across kiwifruit and arable industry as well as Waikato farmer, Beef + Lamb NZ director, AGMARDT Associate Trustee and Nuffield Scholar, Phil Weir.
"The nature of farming has become more diversified since the establishment of the Commodities Levies Act. Farming now is an increasingly complex business so how do we best reflect that in the needs of our farmers," explains Phil Weir.

In 2024, AGMARDT and KPMG New Zealand launched The Common Ground - a home for the conversation following the report "Are industry good organisations, good for industry?"
The Common Ground is a collaborative platform and a call for Communities of Action for the redesign of New Zealand's agriculture and horticulture's "industry good" system.
How can the way we work together on common ground to be fit-for-purpose for the rapidly changing future of wicked problems and big opportunities and have a collaborative approach on everything from environmental to markets?
