Fergus O’Hare was recently awarded our Community Media Champion Award. Community Media Champion awards recognise individuals who've made a significant and special contribution to community media in the UK. There’s more info on our website.

Fergus established Raidió Fáilte, which provides Irish language services to the Irish-speaking community in Belfast.

He was also involved in the civil rights movement in Northern Ireland as a member of People's Democracy in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Former CMA Chair Dom Chambers visited Belfast to hand Fergus the award a few weeks ago. But they also found some time to chat about community radio, and the story behind the fantastic project that is Raidió Fáilte.

From 01/02/23 to 17/02/23 the Community Media Association surveyed the community radio sector on a number of different issues related to issues and concerns we are frequently hearing from our membership. As a members’ organisation, we are keen to ensure that our policy and lobbying group is campaigning on the topics that matter most to UK community radio practitioners. We had 100 responses, representing 76 organisations.

The report’s conclusions are based on the survey responses received. The further recommendations are endorsed by the CMA Council and advisors.

A written version is available of the CMA website.
