Greg Shwem Talks What It's Like to Be A Standup Comedian
While his fellow comedians toiled in smoky comedy clubs, Greg switched his focus to the corporate market. For the past 20 years, he has traveled the world making Fortune 500 companies and professional business associations laugh at themselves, in the process earning the label, “King of the hill in the world of corporate comedy” from the Chicago Tribune. Greg has appeared in 48 out of 50 U.S states and multiple foreign countries. He considers shows in Vienna, Austria, Poznan, Poland and Cuzco, Peru among his favorites.
“Laughter is a universal emotion,” Greg says. “No matter where I am, and who is sitting in front of me, I relish having the opportunity to provide that emotion.”
Greg’s unique ability to write material exclusively for this audiences and perform without resorting to foul language or offensive subject matter has landed him appearances on Comedy Central, VH-1 and the Arts & Entertainment Network. He is a sought-after emcee for corporate events and opening act for musical stars such as Keith Urban, Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias, his son Enrique and many more.
Greg has also given his time and his humor to multiple charitable, religious and philanthropic organizations, including the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and the United Methodist Church. His ability to connect with people of all ages, races and backgrounds lead to the creation of his travel web series, A Comedian Crashes Your Pad, featuring hilarious segments of Greg staying in home sharing properties located in the cities where he is performing.
“I’ve learned there are a lot of very good, very friendly people in the world, who enjoy welcoming strangers into their homes and sharing their lives,” Greg says. “I may entertain strangers from the stage, but this is a chance for strangers to entertain me as well!”
When not on the road, Greg resides in the suburbs of Chicago where he is a devoted husband and father to two grown girls. His family live became the subject of his first book, Text Me If You’re Breathing: Observations, Frustrations and Life Lessons from a Low-Tech Dad.” In 2015, Greg authored a second Amazon bestseller, The Road to Success Goes Through the Salad Bar: A Pile of BS (Business Stories) From a Corporate Comedian.
