This week on This Is DSM, Leisa Fox and Chris Nelson are back together for "Around Here," highlighting some of the spooky and seasonal fun happening across Central Iowa! From Witches Walk in Downtown Ames to Pumpkins After Dark in Des Moines, they've got a few ideas to help you make the most of the fall season.
Then, This Is DSM hosts Trish Flaherty-Barnes and Tricia Rivas sit down with Amy Landrigan, Chief Executive Officer of The Beacon in Des Moines, to talk about the organization and the work it does to support women in the community.
Amy shares more about The Beacon's residential program and its work providing housing, trauma-informed support, and resources for women navigating challenges such as trauma, homelessness, addiction, incarceration, and domestic violence. She also talks about the support available to them and how the organization helps women work toward greater stability and independence.
The conversation also highlights The Beacon's upcoming Cake Gala, an annual fundraiser supporting the organization's mission and the women it serves.
