The Compassion of Jesus

Matthew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Moving along in our Rooted and Rising series, we are now looking at the Value of being people who continue the works of Jesus by being compassionate.

We are now exploring the next set of values with compassion and deliverance, and these are two sides of the same coin in the ministry of Jesus. All throughout the Gospels, Jesus fed the crowds physically and spiritually. He fed the 5,000 while also bringing healing and wholeness to those who needed it later in Matthew 14. It's always both-and for Jesus:

He saw their physical needs along with their spiritual brokenness. And as we continue Jesus' works, we are called to do the same. All too often, people will focus on one aspect of healing, either just the physical or just the spiritual, but Jesus went after both.
