This week I was lucky enough to speak to Amethysta Herrick, from Colorado.

After establishing a successful career in science and tech, serving as a chemist, professor, software engineer, and manager, Amethysta made a transformative shift.

She embraced her passion for writing full-time, centering her narratives around her transgender experience and delving into the profound exploration of origin and identity.

Over the past few years, Amethysta has navigated significant changes and made life-altering decisions. Her journey of self-discovery promises to be a compelling story.

In an endeavor to introduce a narrative element to my podcast, I asked Amethysta to be my test subject this week, inviting her to be a character in a unique storytelling experiment. I led her through a hypothetical, life-altering scenario, punctuated by a series of critical decisions she had to make.

This proved not only fun but profoundly revealing. By the end, Amethysta and I concurred that a society's success is intimately tied to its willingness to embrace change.

REFLECTION AND GROWTH

While writing last week's article, "The Fourth Time I Might Have Died," I found myself reflecting on my work thus far for Complicated by Choices.

I realized that although I've already published a lot, I've been subtly discovering my style and striving to better understand what I hope to achieve with my work. This process has given me a clearer sense of my approach, the impact I want to create in the world, and, importantly, has instilled greater confidence in myself.

This personal growth has allowed me to let go of the insecurities I felt when pressing "publish" and, fittingly for today, when conducting interviews for the podcast. Initially, I was hesitant to ask guests to be vulnerable, even though they knew the purpose of the podcast was to delve into the complexities of humanity, necessitating vulnerability from both them and me.

By reminding myself of the advantages that these open conversations bring to me, my guests, and our audience, my confidence in embracing my role as an interviewer has been bolstered. I believe this newfound assurance will lead to more engaging content and valuable learning experiences for everyone involved.
