Chris Gkikas lives in Asheville, North Carolina. On September 19, 2015 he finished the Barkley Fall Classic 50k ultramarathon in Wartburg, Tennessee. This was not his first ultra, nor did he achieve a new distance in this race. To understand what makes this story significant (and inspiring) you just need to listen to him tell what happened. It's an awesome story, but even more so since it's told from Chris' first-hand perspective.
Note: this episode is one of my longer ones - it's about an hour.
Fun fact: this race is unusual in many ways, but one of the most interesting is that the course actually takes the runners inside and through a former prison - the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary.
