By Tobin Addington and Aislinn AddingtonTV & Film
The Contenders episodes
- 046 A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)Buried trauma. Domestic violence. Grief and reconciliation. Just another bright, sunny day in the world of this Mr. Rogers movie! Switch your jacket for a cardigan and settle in as the Addington siblings unpack the nooks and crannies of this strange little movie. From Tom Hanks' perfect casting and the remarkably unique look of the film, to the odd focus and structure of the story, Marielle Heller's film is a real puzzler. (Help us figure it out!) Plus, Aislinn throws together one of her best CageClub games to date! - 045 Widows (2018)A bank heist gone wrong. A dead crew of thieves. And plans for one last job. The Addington siblings suit up for 2018's Widows starring Viola Davis as a grief stricken widow turned master criminal. Steve McQueen's gripping crime thriller, co-written by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, never found its audience in 2018, an oversight our devoted hosts plan to fix once and for all. Do Tobin and Aislinn have the balls to pull this one off? There's only one way to find out...Find us on Twitter: @Contenders_PodOn Patreon: www.thecontenderspod.comOn Email: [email protected]Tobin on Twitter: @tobinaddingtonAislinn on Twitter: @SassyNerdMTFind more shows: cageclub.meMusic: "Let's Start at the Beginning" by Lee RosevereLicensed under Creative Commons: CC-BY-SA1 hr 10 min
- 044 The To Do List (2013)Shockers. Pearl necklaces. Connie Britton. Chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips. The Addington siblings, joined by Colin Haines, go to some really unusual places on this episode about The To Do List. It's a perfect antidote for a world falling apart, with one of the funniest games Aislinn has ever devised. Come check it out! (Get it? COME check it out? Sorry.)Find us on Twitter: @Contenders_PodOn Patreon: www.thecontenderspod.comOn Email: [email protected]Tobin on Twitter: @tobinaddingtonAislinn on Twitter: @SassyNerdMTFind more shows: cageclub.meMusic: "Let's Start at the Beginning" by Lee RosevereLicensed under Creative Commons: CC-BY-SA53 min
- Technical DifficultiesIn an attempt to discuss the awesome 2018 film Widows, starring Viola Davis, the Addington siblings have their episode stolen out from under them by technical difficulties! (That's a joke if you've seen the film... Not a GREAT joke, but a joke.) Sorry, everybody. We'll be back next month with an episode on The To Do List, followed by an episode in April on Disney's new live action Mulan!Find us on Twitter: @Contenders_PodOn Patreon: www.thecontenderspod.comOn Email: [email protected]Tobin on Twitter: @tobinaddingtonAislinn on Twitter: @SassyNerdMTFind more shows: cageclub.meMusic: "Let's Start at the Beginning" by Lee RosevereLicensed under Creative Commons: CC-BY-SA2 min
- 043 Little Women (2019)Ambition, determination, heart, and a woman's place in the world. The Addington siblings take it all on as they dive into Greta Gerwig's Oscar-nominated film Little Women. Joined by The Contenders' official literature expert Derek Heckman, they consider the life of the writer, the bonds between siblings, and whether or not this adaptation can possibly hold up against Aislinn's beloved 1994 version. Plus, will Tobin continue his hot streak, or can Derek win Aislinn's best game yet? Find out here, where some natures are too proud to bend.Find us on Twitter: @Contenders_PodOn Patreon: www.thecontenderspod.comOn Email: [email protected]Tobin on Twitter: @tobinaddingtonAislinn on Twitter: @SassyNerdMTFind more shows: cageclub.meMusic: "Let's Start at the Beginning" by Lee RosevereLicensed under Creative Commons: CC-BY-SA1 hr 20 min
- 042 Frozen II (2019)Can a sequel to the highest grossing animated film of all time live up to those expectations? What did Tobin's kids think? Does Olaf still make Aislinn chuckle? Join the Addington siblings as they journey into the unknown in search of answers, toe-tapping tunes, and more Sven in Frozen II! Come for the fjords, stay for the Disney princess game with special guest -- and animation expert -- Josh Devenere. - 041 Charlie's Angels (2019)International intrigue! Spectacular stunts! Closets full of weapons! And a lot more Patrick Stewart than anyone prepared us for! Join the Addington siblings as they assess the 2019 Charlie's Angels, written, produced, co-starring, and directed by Elizabeth Banks. Does it live up to the previous films or TV shows? Can Kristen Stewart win Aislinn over? Why aren't more people going to see this movie? All those answers -- plus two games! -- in this, your latest episode of The Contenders.Find us on Twitter: @Contenders_PodOn Patreon: www.thecontenderspod.comOn Email: [email protected]Tobin on Twitter: @tobinaddingtonAislinn on Twitter: @SassyNerdMTFind more shows: cageclub.meMusic: "Let's Start at the Beginning" by Lee RosevereLicensed under Creative Commons: CC-BY-SA56 min
- 040 Late Night (2019)From Emma Thompson's cutting condescension to Mindy Kaling's plucky earnestness, does Late Night live up to its Sundance-hit hype, or sink to the level of its middling reviews? Only the Addington siblings have the answer, as they debate workplace comedies, cringe-worthy stand-up, and referring to your employees by number instead of by name. Plus, a game to test your working knowledge of real late night hosts!
