Pull up a chair to the Contented Table for a pause, in the midst of summer.

Bring Peace to your table and rest for your spirit through His words of nourishment for body and soul.

In Session 4, of our Summer Bible Study, we sit around my corner table where you can lean in, to hear what the Word tells you about restful gathering.

I’ve taken the notes for you. All done.

    The Bible passage:

    Luke 22:18, 24-30

    Application to your everyday nourishment:

    * Jesus is welcoming you into His presence where is is no condemnation, no shame.

    * You can look forward to the Banquet Table where Jesus is saving you a seat.

    * You can serve other hearts that need Peace and Rest using your table.

    Putting into Practice:

    * Pick a day to set one more place setting at your table.

    * Make one more serving, to bless another.

    * Think of one person to welcome to your table this week.

Questions that remain to keep seeking, to ponder, and to pray about:

    * Have I accepted His invitation to sit at His table? If not, what is causing my hesitation?

    * Have I given myself permission to sit in His presence in the place of honor?

    * Do I feel welcome? Do I believe there is no condemnation, no shame at His table?

    * Will I join the movement to always have room for one more? Serve others as Jesus did and ask us to?

Here are the two songs mentioned, that will help you look up in praise and fill up with His love for you:

  • 📖The Contented Table Summer Bible Study - Session 3

Pull up a chair to the Contented Table for a pause, in the midst of summer.

Bring Peace to your table and rest for your spirit through His words of nourishment for body and soul.

In Session 3, of our Summer Bible Study, we sit around my kitchen island. Lean in, to hear what the Word tells you about restful gathering.

I’ve taken the notes for you. All done.

    The Bible passage:

    Mark 14: 22-25 and Hebrews 9: 16-23

    Application to your everyday nourishment:

Knowing that Jesus used everyday foods to welcome you to Him, shows you:

    * Everyday food items can remind you that Jesus offers you the source of Peace and Rest for your table.

    * Your table can be a place of thankfulness even when facing hardship (Jesus faced crucifixion the next day yet gave thanks).

    * Your table can be a sanctuary of gratitude, inviting others to sit and find a pause of Peace several times a day.

    * Your posture of gratitude and thankfulness will increase the magnitude of peace and rest at your table.

    Putting into Practice:

    * Use the pause for food several times a day as a routine to practice thankfulness.

    * Designate foods and fluids you have every day as a reminder to pause and fuel your gratitude.

    * Start a live gratitude journal. Go around your table, or if it is just you, be intentional to say a thank you out loud even if grace is not yet your practice.

    * Incorporate these statements into your grace-prayer and as conversation starters.

Questions that remain to keep seeking, to ponder, and to pray about:

    * Have I accepted Your gift of Your sacrifice and believed Your forgiveness, Lord?

    * Do I have a slingshot of gratitude as I meditate on Your sacrifice, Jesus? Do I marvel at You giving thanks for what was about to happen to You?

    * Is my life reflective of a posture of gratitude? Show me how, Holy Spirit.

    Small Group Reflections:

Click here for the exclusive Bible Study Chat around the Contented Table.

    * Do you have a specific prayer request about this? I would like to pray for you.

    * What did you hear when you read or heard this passage? Let’s share insight.

    * Pull up a chair around the table to continue the conversation as we seek, ponder, and pray over these questions with Bibles and hearts open.

When you accept His gift of sacrifice and believe His forgiveness, you will have the natural tendency of thankfulness and gratitude. This brings Peace to your table and rest for your spirit.

I look forward to seeing you again in two weeks for our fourth and final Summer Bible Study Session. We will be looking forward to the Great Banquet Table together.

Bring a friend, there’s always room for one more,

Bring Peace to your table and rest for your spirit through His words of nourishment for body and soul.

In Session 2, of our Summer Bible Study, we are sitting around my kitchen table. Lean in, to hear what the Word tells you about restful gathering.

I’ve taken the notes for you. All done.

    The Bible passage:

    Matthew 26: 20-25

    Application to your everyday nourishment:

Knowing that Jesus reclined at the table in the presence of His enemy shows us:

    * Your table can be a place of intimacy with Jesus and your closest people.

    * Your table, in all its imperfections, can be a safe place to share raw and real words.

  • 📖The Contented Table Summer Bible Study - Session 1

    Summer 🔅.

A slower pace and time for more.

But if you are anything like me, the calendar is full, and fitting in the restful things can be stressful.

    That's a little ironic.

But here at the Contented Table, you have a pause in the rush. To find Peace at your table - even in the chaos.

Pull up a chair and let’s lean in, to hear what the Word tells us about restful gathering in Week 1 of our Summer Bible Study.

I’ve taken the notes for you. All done.

[Disclaimer: Please forgive the unpredictable distractions in the video. I chose to persevere. And when I said “unexpected”, I really meant “expected”. Thanks for grace!]

Disclaimer: Please forgive the unpredictable distractions. I chose to persevere. And when I said “unexpected”, I really meant “expected”. Thanks for grace!

    The Bible passage:

    Matthew 26: 17-19 with reference to Mark 14: 12-15 and Luke 22: 7-13.

    Application to your everyday nourishment:

What the “Certain Man” who hosted the Lord’s Supper has taught us:

    * Holding loosely to what you have readies your heart to bless others with it.

    * Being ready in anticipation of the ask disintegrates burden.

    * A heart posture of first inviting Jesus to take a seat at your table brings a Presence of Peace (even in the turmoil).

    * You will find joy in the giving, rest in the sharing, and end up more fulfilled. Because ultimately, serving Jesus will glorify Him. What we are created to do.

    Putting into Practice:

    * Set an extra place at your table as an act of invitation for Jesus to pull up a chair. It will visually remind you of His presence.

Questions that remain to keep seeking, to ponder, and to pray about:

    * Lord, what do I need to release to you? Where do I need softening, so I can hold loosely to what I have that others need?

    * Jesus, is my heart willing/softened/ready so that when an ask comes, it is not a surprise?

    * What do I need to open wide to You so that I can have joy in serving instead of burden?

    * Are there any pieces that are in my way of inviting You, Peace itself, to take a seat at my table?

    Small Group Reflections:

Click here for the exclusive Bible Study Chat around the Contented Table.

    * Do you have a specific prayer request about this? I would like to pray for you.

    * What did you hear when you read or heard this passage? Let’s share insight.

    * Pull up a chair around the table to continue the conversation as we seek, ponder, and pray over these questions with Bibles and hearts open.

When you hold loosely to what you have been given, ready your heart for His service, and invite Him first, you will find Peace at your table and Rest for your spirit.

See you again in two weeks.
