The Coolant Pod

It's another year of the MRC Birthday Bash at Nashcon and here is our recap. Pirate and Tweezer attended this "not a tournament" ...well... tournament? It's always fun to see old friends and meet new ones while we're beating the crap out of each other with stompy robots.

We are sponsored by Fortress Games and Miniatures, and highly recommend Bobby for all of your Battletech and hobby related purchases:  https://www.fortressminiaturesandgames.com

We'd love your feedback on what we are doing well, suck at, or anything in between. Feel free to hit us up on the MRC Discord: https://discord.gg/UnwFRV4xha or at [email protected]

In this episode of the Coolant Pod, we crack open the newly dropped Core Box set and go through the variants of what's in the box. Mostly decent, some amazing and some...less so.

The Coolant Pod is joined by special guest Steve (Sol Roth) of the Mechbay podcast and we all have a "free" cathartic therapy session as we talk about burn out and why it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Right now, the Battletech world is focused on the upcoming new core box set. So what does the Coolant Pod do? How about a force pack review of an old product you can only get from Ironwind Metals? In this episode, we dive into the units that make up the Undead Lance pack and how we would use them in our games.

Jesty, Nitro and Pirate have a bit more of a role playing discussion on character alignments and how some of our favorite (or reviled) characters would stack up on a classic alignment chart. We also talk about how you could use alignments to help roleplay your games of Battletech and add new layers.

It's May again so that means it's time for the Coolant Pod's annual trek to Detroit and try to avoid getting shot while rolling our own crits. In this episode, Pirate and Tweezer recount our weekend at Motor City Mayhem 2026 and all the explosions and hilarity that ensued there.

Sometimes it's not all giant stompy robots which win or lose your game of Battletech. Occasionally it's just some dude on foot with a gun who wasn't even supposed to be here today that players pin their game hopes on. We have a special guest, Inypt, on this episode to talk all about infantry and how to use them in both Alpha Strike and Classic.

Not all games of Battletech are turn based tabletop wargames, some of them involve nothing more than a character sheet and a bit of imagination. In this episode the Pod goes through creating RPG characters for A Time of War and then Traveler. Join us with special guest Jason Hansa as we dive into the roleplaying side of the BT universe.

In this episode, we try to talk through the Outworlds Alliance - one of the lesser known periphery powers which has become a much more integral part of the storyline since merging with a certain flock of Ravens. We'll cover history of both of these factions independently and what happens after they get together, some key units and paint schemes of course.

Brawl in the Bluegrass 2026 has come and gone for this year. Special correspondent Jason Hansa joins the pod to talk about his and Pirate's experiences playing in the event and just the overall weekend experience. It's a long one, so buckle up buttercup.
