Blood, Tape, and Trash: Cannibal Hookers & Camp Blood | The Corpse Cast
Welcome back to The Corpse Cast, where we dig up the wildest corners of horror cinema. In this episode, we dive headfirst into the gritty world of Shot-On-Video (SOV) horror with two underground cult oddities: Cannibal Hookers (1987) and Camp Blood (2000).
First up, we talk about Cannibal Hookers, the infamous low-budget VHS nightmare packed with cults, cannibalism, and exactly the kind of chaotic filmmaking that makes SOV horror so legendary. Then we head deep into the woods with Camp Blood, a slasher staple from the late-90s DIY horror scene featuring one seriously creepy clown killer.
We break down the stories, the gore, the production madness, and why these grainy VHS-era horror films still have such a devoted cult following today. Are they hidden gems of underground horror… or just gloriously trashy midnight movie material?
Grab your popcorn, dust off the VCR, and join us as we explore the blood-soaked world of SOV horror.
If you enjoy obscure horror, slashers, and VHS-era madness, make sure to like, subscribe, and follow The Corpse Cast for more deep dives into cult horror cinema.
Which 1931 Dracula SUCKS Better?
Two Draculas. Same Universal sets. Same year. Shot back-to-back… and one of them might be the superior vampire flick.
In this fang-tastic episode, undead hosts Mike Cadaver & Matt Wall go full coffin-to-coffin comparing:
• Bela Lugosi’s legendary Count vs. Carlos Villarías in the rarely-seen Spanish Drácula
• The wild behind-the-scenes story: how George Melford directed the Spanish version at night (without speaking Spanish!) and still made a 30-minute-longer, steamier, more cinematic monster
• Pacing, scares, atmosphere, sexy Eva vs. Mina, and that infamous “bite close-up” difference
• Final verdict: which one reigns supreme in 2026?
If you love Universal Monster classics, vampire deep-dives, or film history rabbit holes, this one’s for you.

Team Lugosi 🧛 or Team Spanish Dracula 🦇?
Join your undead hosts Mike Cadaver and Matt Wall as we dig deep into the shadowy roots of Eastern European folk horror, where ancient superstitions, rural dread, and nightmarish creatures lurk just beyond the village lights.
This time we're exhuming two pioneering classics from behind the Iron Curtain:
Then we cross into Yugoslavian territory with **Leptirica (1973)** (aka *The She-Butterfly*), a made-for-TV Serbian gem directed by Đorđe Kadijević and often hailed as the first true horror film from the region. Drawing from Milovan Glišić's 19th-century vampire story *After Ninety Years*, it follows a young man who must prove his worth by spending a night in a cursed mill haunted by the infamous folkloric vampire Sava Savanović. Things get hairy (literally) with monstrous nocturnal attacks, a transformative she-vampire, stakes through the heart, and a creeping atmosphere soaked in Slavic rural paranoia and folklore. It's raw, eerie, and ferociously cynical—think early folk horror with teeth.
Secondly we dig into the Soviet masterpiece Viy (1967)—directed by Konstantin Yershov and Georgi Kropachyov, and based on Nikolai Gogol's chilling tale. A wayward seminary student finds himself trapped in a remote church, reciting prayers over the corpse of a beautiful young woman... who turns out to be a vengeful witch with a taste for revenge. Expect hypnotic flights across moonlit fields, demonic visions, and the terrifying titular Viy—a monstrous spirit whose gaze no mortal can withstand. This one's a wild blend of Gothic fantasy, dark folklore, and surreal visuals that still feels fresh and frightening today.
Grab your holy water (or rakija), light a candle, and come get buried in Eastern European folk horror with us. Don't blink... or the Viy might see you.

Join your horror hosts Mike Cadaver and Matt Wall on The Corpse Cast as we dive into one of the wildest coincidences in ’90s horror: Robert Rodriguez’s The Faculty and David Nutter’s Disturbing Behavior – both released in 1998, both about parasites/robots turning high school kids into perfect little monsters… and they’re scary similar!
We’re breaking down the casts (Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Famke Janssen vs James Marsden, Katie Holmes, Nick Stahl), the kills, the teen angst, the killer soundtracks, and asking the big question: rip-off, trend, or Hollywood reading from the same script bible?
If you love late-’90s teen horror, Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibes, and movies that time forgot, this episode is for you!
Dive into the shadowy depths of cinematic vengeance with your undead hosts, Mike Cadaver and Matt Wall, on this bone-chilling episode of The Corpse Cast. We're pitting Ingmar Bergman's austere masterpiece The Virgin Spring (1960)—a stark, medieval meditation on faith, sin, and divine retribution—against Wes Craven's raw, unflinching shocker The Last House on the Left (1972), the godfather of grindhouse gut-punch that redefined horror's moral underbelly.
The Corpse Cast hosts Mike Cadaver and Matt Wall return for round two of Lovecraftian horrors, diving into Dagon (2001) and The Lighthouse (2019). We're talking a Lovecraft adaptation, and a Lovecraftian film, in theme only... What's the difference between the two? You're about to find out. Join us for fish-monster and farts! Come and get it...

Dive into the shadowy, psychedelic underbelly of Euro-horror with your host Mike Cadaver and his electrifying co-host Matt Wall in this spine-tingling episode of The Corpse Cast! For the first time on the show, Matt Wall—cult film aficionado and self-proclaimed "Franco fanatic"—joins Mike to dissect the enigmatic genius of Jess Franco, the prolific Spanish auteur whose boundary-pushing films blurred the lines between eroticism, surrealism, and outright depravity.
The focus for this episode is on Franco's muses, the ethereal Soledad Miranda, whose tragic beauty lit up Vampyros Lesbos before her untimely death at 27, and the fearless Lina Romay, Franco's real-life partner and on-screen siren who fearlessly embodied raw sensuality in over 100 of his fever-dream productions including Female Vampire.
The days are getting shorter, mornings are getting just a little more crisp, and best of all it's back to school time! We all remember the horrors of high school in our own lives, so The Corpse Cast thought... what a better time to talk about the horrors of other people's high school experiences! This episode we're talking: Return to Horror High (1987), Battle Royale (2000) and Prom Night (1980). Come and get it!
