This week is the first in a series of shows dedicate to interfaith understanding.   What would it be like to be immersed in the cultural faith experience of other people? Our guests this week are interfaith pioneers, Ben Bowler and Raj Sankarlall, who hope to give us a taste of exactly that. Ben Bowler is from Melbourne Australia and is the founder of World Weavers, a social enterprise running the cultural immersion programs Monk for a Month, Muslim for a Month and the Sufi Mystic Experience. Ben is also the co-founder of Blood Foundation, the development arm of World Weavers. The foundation is active along the Thai-Burma border offering educational assistance to refugees and migrants from war-torn Burma. Raj Sankarlall was born in the Caribbean and relocated to Florida in 2004.  He has traveled the world extensively, experiencing a variety of world cultures and has lived with Buddhist monks and experienced Turkish Sufism first hand.  Says Raj, "I see myself as a pilgrim, on a spirit walk, trying to bring meaning to my life from understanding perspectives of different cultures across the world. My passion is culture and I travel because of this passion." The programs that Ben and Raj dedicate their lives to are designed to people a highly authentic and inner experience of other faith traditions. These genuine inter-cultural immersion programs have opened up the door to greater faith literacy for hundreds of people. We hope you join us.

The Urantia Book tells us that the time is ripe to witness the figurative resurrection of the human Jesus from his burial tomb amidst the theological traditions and the religious dogmas of twenty centuries. It goes on to say that if Jesus could be recovered from the tomb of traditional theology and presented as the living Jesus to the church that bears his name, and to all other religions, what a transcendant service that would be!   Recent scholarship reveals that the social, political, and religious environment in which Jesus undertook his life's mission was far more dynamic and challenging than previously thought. The popular picture of Jesus as a rustic growing up in the relative isolation of a small village of four hundred people in the remote hills of Galilee whose only exposure to urban life was an occasional visit to Jerusalem is being radically altered by a wide range of current archaeological investigations and discoveries, all of which were confirmed by The Urantia Book 70 years ago. A clearer grasp of the cultural environment in which Jesus lived and taught will result in a much better understanding of how and why he architected his ministry in the way he did. This is the inspiration behind the Joshua ben Joseph project, being undertaken by our guests this week, Eric Cosh and David Kantor, with help from The Urantia Book Fellowship, Urantia University, and a wide range of interested Urantia students. A young man named Jeff Bethke wrote a poem called, Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus. He recorded it and it has now been viewed close to 20 million times on YouTube. Many people define their religious life by saying that they love God but not religion. If you call yourself "spiritual" but not "religious" you are not alone. But what does that mean? Can a person love God without going to church? We think it's possible to have a personal relationship with God, without benefit of clergy or a creed. If you agree, call in this week and share your own personal spiritual journey with us.  "While your religion is a matter of personal experience, it is most important that you should be exposed to the knowledge of a vast number of other religious experiences (the diverse interpretations of other and diverse mortals) to the end that you may prevent your religious life from becoming egocentric — circumscribed, selfish, and unsocial" (The Urantia Book, 103:1.3)  It is a fallacy for any group of religionists to conceive of their creed as The Truth; such attitudes bespeak more of theological arrogance than of certainty of faith. There is not a  Urantia (earth) religion that could not profitably study and assimilate the best of the truths contained in every other faith, for all contain truth. This week is again an open phone segment. It is the third and final part in our discussion of the essential Jesus. We started with his gospel message, then explored his splendid unselfish service and this week we are discussing his sublime faith and religion. What was Jesus' religion?  Christianity is a religion about Jesus. It evolved during the 20 centuries after he died, all of his early followers were Jews or Gentiles, so we can hardly call Jesus a Christian. He was, after all, raised in the religion of the Hebrews and yet the religious authorities of his day called him a blasphemer and a heretic, so he could hardly have been called a devout Jew. So what was the religion of Jesus? What did he bring to humanity that was so different that 20 centuries and have come and gone and the humble carpenter from Nazareth is still hailed as the King of Kings. There is something about Jesus that cannot be explained. Something so powerful and so sublime that it changed the course of human history and touched every human life, directly or indirectly, from that day to this. How can we emulate his superb faith? A faith that attained the purity of a child’s trust and was so undoubting that it yielded the joy and the assurance of absolute personal security. His faith was so real and all-encompassing that it absolutely swept away any spiritual doubts and effectively destroyed every conflicting desire.
