  • 46: The COURAGE to Heal – RYAN HASSAN
    ABOUT RYAN

Ryan is Founder and CEO at The Centre for Healing. His passion for helping people with Mental Illness and Addiction comes from his own pain. Ryan suffered from anxiety for as long as he could remember and that manifested in many destructive patterns throughout his life, culminating in a hardcore drug addiction to Methamphetamine & GHB.

Whilst this addiction took everything material from his life, it was also Ryan’s greatest blessing. He was forced to face up to his mental and emotional demons, and he overcame not only the addiction but also his anxiety to feel peace for the first time. This led him to completely immerse himself in how people end up in emotional pain and how it’s possible for anyone to be free from it.

This led him to open The Centre for Healing, to help people who have found themselves in the pain he once was. Ryan has been a Trauma Therapist for many years and has successfully helped countless people get past their Addictions & Mental Health issues through his experience, understanding and knowledge. He is also a co-creator of the healing modality Embodied Processing, with colleague & friend Matt Nettleton. Ryan has been trained in various modalities around trauma & alternative healing, as well as more traditional counselling & coaching.

    And remember, U are COURAGEous.

  • 45: The COURAGE to be a Mongrel – TIM HEWSON

    ABOUT TIM

I first knew of Tim Hewson when I connected with some of the men from Mongrels Men at my local beach in Dee Why (NSW). Not long after I was introduced to Tim, I then attended The Story Room, in Brookvale (NSW) in early March 2024.

After seeing the positive impact possible in men firsthand when building the Mongrels Men mental health charity from scratch, Tim decided it was time to turn the dial up on men’s mental health and broaden the impact he can have on men’s wellbeing.

He knows too many men stay silent and don’t get professional help when they need it.

He believes blokes need to get better at having more meaningful conversations, checking in on one another and having the tough conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

Tim motivates hundreds of men to get out of bed, outdoors, moving and connecting with other men in their local community each week.

Tim is the founder and volunteer Director of Mongrels Men, a charity on a mission to improve men’s mental and physical health & wellbeing through community, conversation, connection and movement.

In less than 3 years, Tim has grown Mongrels Men from a couple of blokes running up and down Dee Why beach sharing their challenges to a registered charity with 16 volunteers running more than 800 programs and activities for thousands of men each year across 13 NSW & QLD locations.

Along the way Tim and Mongrels Men have won awards from Australian Men’s Health Forum, Westfield, LG Electronics and ING (Bank Australia Limited). Tim was also recently recognised in NSW State Parliament for his contribution to improving men’s mental health.

Tim is also the founder of Betterment which creates opportunities for authentic conversations via informative, thought provoking and practical keynote presentations and workshops.

The Betterment experience is designed to ensure participants walk away better informed about mental health with some simple actionable tips to improve self-care and wellbeing.

  • 44: The COURAGE to Care – PIX JONASSON

This week’s episode is inspired by my fab former podcast guest (Ep#017) and friend, the inspirational, talented coach and mentor, Jerry Roisentul. I was on a recent online Leadership training of Jerry’s to celebrate his 10 Year Anniversary of coaching. CONGRATS and WELL DONE Jerry.

(FYI – Jerry has learnt from, and is partnering with, one of the best in the leadership space, the awesome John C Maxwell)

As Jerry closed out his training, he read a touching example of leadership (and COURAGE and caring) in action. It’s the story of Teddy Stoddard.

The article has circulated around the Web, so it may or may not be accurate. Regardless it’s a touching story!

I wish there were more Mrs Thompsons in the world!

I hope this episode touches you like it did me. Thanks Coach Jerry! Big Aussie hugs.

You may just be THAT one person.”

  • 41: The COURAGE to Be Kinds – PIX JONASSON

I thought I would share something personal that I recently experienced. I connected with an elderly lady, Alex, who I see most days in the supermarket complex, above which I live.

I see her typing away on her laptop so today I introduced myself, had a brief chat with her as she explained she was working on human rights. Then Alex shared a little with me about her journey. She lost her home through no fault of her own at 64 and now lives in public housing. Sickeningly, Alex had an awful experience, with her ex-husband, a former teacher, Her ex had intercourse with a 12 year old girl, got her pregnant and went ahead with the pregnancy AND HE GOT OFF!
So I wanted to put a little kindness in her day as she powers away on her human rights activism work in the supermarket complex. I came up to my unit and went back down to Alex with a cup of tea in a fine china cup and a biscuit, for which she was extremely grateful.

“Be a voice for others who can’t or won’t speak

    about child sexual abuse.”

I hope to be the voice for others who can’t or won’t speak about child sexual abuse and other tough topics.

As a mentor and friend of mine, Siimon Reynolds, once told me…..”the heart that gives, gathers!”
Well, through my random act of kindness today with Alex, my heart definitely gathered. Thankyou Alex. I know we will definitely keep in touch.

  • 40: The COURAGE At Christmas – PIX JONASSON

This is a MILESTONE week.  In 2020, I had a Covid baby, twins really!!  And this week we celebrate a couple of their “birthdays”… the RUBY 40th episode of The COURAGEpreneur Podcast and also the GOLDEN 50th edition of The COURAGE Weekly.  Last year I started both The COURAGEpreneur Podcast and The COURAGE Weekly, having the COURAGE to Commence and learn along the way, not having all the metaphorical “green lights” to commence!

Like anything though, we are never a success on our own.

I owe a debt of gratitude to my ab-fab podcast mentor, Annemarie Cross.  Thanks for your faith, belief and trust in me as well as your amazing guidance and support.  Without you, The COURAGEpreneur brand would still be only an idea.

Steve Allen, you are the man with the golden voice.  I am so grateful for standing in THAT lunch line at the Gary V and Grant Cardone event years ago, meeting you and complimenting you on your voice and subsequently last year, asking you if you would record the voiceover.  Your professional intro and outro for each episode and the zippy music for The COURAGEpreneur Podcast is always appreciated.

Thanks also to my kids, Sam (Sambo) and Katie Kate for inspiring me to me your crazy Mumma in all I do.  And thanks to your respective partners, Mum-to-be Milla, and Andrew.

Thanks to all my family for supporting me in all my ventures.

And thanks to my partner, Craig, for loving me the way you do.  Big hugs.

This week’s podcast is about The COURAGE to Commence, personally and professionally.  As Zig Ziglar (not Jim Rohn!) said, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

Feel free to also check out the speech I mention about making your bed by Navy Seal, Admiral William McRaven.

“Happy and safe Christmas one and all.”

  • 37: The COURAGE to Communicate with LOVE – TERENCE POPE

    About Terence Pope

I connected with this week’s guest via LinkedIn.  Terence Pope has the mission of raising the vibrational expression of humanity through the power of love.  So I knew I had to have a chat with him.  Terence is a father, grandfather, traveller, entrepreneurial business owner, author, life coach and podcast host, The Mind Coach Man.

If you had met him sixty years ago, you would have discovered a young boy so afraid of what others thought of him that he suffered from a severe speech impediment and was not even slightly effective at communicating with people.

At nine years of age, Terence had a vision that was the start of what was to become a lifelong long journey of self-development as he desperately sought the truth about his life … who he is, why he is here and where he is going.  Terence believes the journey will continue until his mission is successful.

“Don’t let your mind scare the life out of you.
Let your heart put the life in you

    ~ Terence Pope~

Listen in to hear how Terence he changed his mindset of being trapped in being a prisoner of his own thinking after reading Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz.  Terence shares about unconditional love and the power of being in the present moment.  He also speaks about relationships as being relating ships and that the best is yet to come.
